why does mc not list all files in library?
« on: April 05, 2004, 08:07:48 pm »

an example .... I just ripped a cd but the directory only finds song 5 ,7, 10 not the rest . I checked they are in the hard drive yet .... and now that I am looking many many cds are missing tracks . yet when I check the hard drive they are there. I try to re import them and it does not find them even when directed to the specific folder ....
I was having this problum with mj. whose look and feel I am infinitly more familiar-comfortable with but I will go to any length to make my library accessable.

wierd that its picking up some songs but not others...try the following (dont know if any will help, but its best to check everything):

1) make sure all the tracks have a suitable file extension

2) check the MC list to see what extensions are being imported (tools>options>file associations)

3) check to see if you can 'find' the tracks using mc's my computer function and searching through the drives

4) check to see if the tracks arent categorised under video

5) go to where the files are stored, right click on the folder and click 'import'

6) reset pc and try again

7) give up and go lie in the sun - summers almost here...

thank you pip I apreciate the input
1-all tracks are ape files ripped with mj-mc
2-its associated with these types of files
3-will try
4-i do not have any vidio in my mc-mj library
5-this was what i tried first but to no avail it
says no new files imported and no files failed to
     import
6-many days many weeks many resets re-installs
7- i spend time every week laying in the sun and daydreaming how nice it would be to have a pc jukebox with even a small fraction of my 10,000 cd collection at my fingertips without searching through cases etc...

it does seam as iof some of them have self corrected after trying to reimport

HOW CAN i ERASE ITS VERSION OF MY LIBRARY AND RE-IMPORT TOTALLY FRESH THE WHOLE LIBRARY INTO MC ??
THANK YOU

file>library>clear library = clear everything

file>library>import medialibrary = does a complete scan and imports everything (i would simply try the import one first and see what it finds)

I had similar problem.

When using the File/Library/Import Media, make sure that the check box labelled "Don't Import Small Files" is NOT checked.

That fixed it for me - basically MC was skipping over small files.

thank you both for the imput
de installed re installed
with clear library and imported only music files
works cleanly

the reason I do not import any avi files into mc-mj is .... it sometimes takes ten minutes to recognize a sienfeld episode or the simpsons let alone one of 100 movies and I have a gig of 333 ram !
mc is music only for me
thanks again
