Wave volume jumps to max - MC problem?
« on: April 20, 2004, 10:07:24 am »

I vaguely remember this happening to my system a few years ago. I'll be using MC 10 and I'll shut it down. When I start it up again, and start playing music, the wave volume is all the way up, but the master volume is still at around the mid-range level. I have to re-adjust in order to get everything to work again. I'm not sure if it's MC that's doing this, or my sound card.

I'm using an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 card with the most recent drivers. Any ideas?

Check the settings in Options > Startup > Startup Volume

Startup volume is not enabled, but "Optimize for..." was. I've always had that on. I turned it off to see if that makes any difference.

I have a Terratec DMX 6fire 24/96 card. It also uses an Envy24 chip.

In my case MC's volume control was not working properly until "Internal Volume" control was introduced.

When it is set to the "System Volume" position it changes the wave volume level in the Terratec control panel. After a couple of volume adjustments in MC the Terratec sound card drivers hang and I have to reboot.

Many other software (e.g. Winamp) use Terratec's master volume instead of wave. There are no problems with that.

Now I use "Internal Volume" option. It works OK and also with ASIO.
