File Sharing applications are not illegal.  What you do with them may be illegal.  You need a poll option to reflect that.

There are other institutions for making laws.

File sharing / P2P / Kazaa etc are absolutely legitimate and legal companies. No one will bother to dispute this much more - especially after the last lengthy court case, in which it was deemed that the P2P program was legitimate but that the file sharers who illegally traded software and media were the ones committing the crimes.

For example some friends of mine use a P2P program in order to share holiday photos. Yes its P2p, but no one cares because the information that they distribute is not copyright.

I'm sorry, but I've locked the poll.

Law isn't formed by opinion.  It's set by lawmakers.  So I don't want anyone to get the impression that Kazaa is or isn't legal due to a poll.

My understanding (and it's only that) is that file sharing itself is not illegal PROVIDED that the material being shared is not copyrighted by someone else.

Sorry to spoil the fun.

Mathew,
You've used up your quarterly quota for polls now.

You had the last word for a minute just now, but I didn't lock the thread.  Just the voting.

there is no need to such poll and discutions.

Any member of this forum knows about all the p2p stuff.

Any member of this forum has his opinion to use it or not
and why.

Any member of this forum may have Philips gear or not.

This would also depend on which Country you live in.

Canada has past a law that as long as you do not sell it, you can download/upload it...(Music)

Yup. In Switzerland it is legal to download copyrighted files as long as you don't share them. The file sharing apps itself are legal (as elsewhere).

In Germany there is a new copyright law. It is very bad verbalized and the discussion is in progress. No judgement so far. But I would be careful.

I think he means that every time you turn around, you're starting a new poll. :P

Perhaps you ought to let up lest you inflame the music gods and you're left to only being able to listen to Vanilla Ice for the rest of your days.

Agree apart form one point.

Do you know Vanilla Ice? It was in 1990. One of the greatest hits. And it's still good.

Listening to: 'Ice Ice Baby' from 'Ice Ice Baby' by 'Vanilla Ice' on Media Center 10

Oh, I'm quite familiar with V Ice. Takes me back to my good old high school days when I used to listen to such classics as Cherry Pie by Warrant, Headed for a Heartbreak by Winger, and Up All Night by Slaughter. And you know what, those are still good, too. Perhaps we should start another thread for favorite songs that are just guilty pleasures. ;D

Sorry to be knockin' V Ice. At least he did make one heck of movie.
