DVD Questions (Any help welcomed)
« on: April 28, 2004, 02:50:42 pm »

OK I may sound like a div here but here goes...

I tried to play a DVD last night with moderate success. Couple of questions:

1: How do adjust contrast/brightness/hue within MC, as searching the help file tells me:

Display
You can customize a few display features here.<snip>

</snip>
Video:
Change the various settings, including brightness, contrast, and hue.

Thing is it doesn't tell me how to get to 'Display' to change settings, I have looked, in the usual places, but if it'is there then I canna see the wood for the trees...

2. MC only outputs stereo when playing back, although WinDVD plays through 5.1 fine. Obviously I want to change this.  Any ideas?

TIA

Yup, it does the 'too dark' thing with all DVD's, I  think it's my ATI 8500 BUT a brightness/contrast tweak always fixes things, same with WinDVD / PowerDVD.

"Display" is the screen you see the DVD playback on.  Right click on it to see options.

Try Tools/Options/Playback and click the "DVD..." button. You should have separate video and audio properties buttons. These will bring up the properties dialogs that are native to the decoder filters in use. You can see what decoder filters MC is using by clicking the "DVD filter listing" button. Audio properties should allow you to switch to 5.1 sound and video should give you a brightness setting if the decoder supplies it on the properties screen.

Odd,

DVD filter listing:
Audio Renderer for MJ
Video Renderer
AC3filter
Overlay Mixer
Line21 Decoder
Intervideo Video Decoder
DVD Navigator

Video properties:
Allows me to set a capture directory but nothing else - WinDVD does allow for contrast/brightness/hue adjustments

Audio properties:
Unable to show DVD audio decoder properties.

no matter if I set it to directsound or not I get the above error

Soundcard is a Hercules Muse 5.1 with most recent drivers btw
