OT: Are you an update freak?
« on: May 05, 2004, 09:01:57 am »

I know for one, I am.

Everyday, without fail, I will first pop into this forum to see whether there's any new version of Media Center for me to download, then I will pop into the mozillazine forum to see whether there's any new build for me to download for Mozilla Firefox. Then I would try to update my antivirus manually (even though automatic update is setup).

Then I would just surf around looking for updates to any of the software that exist in my computer.

Just wondering if there's anybody that is also suffering from the same "sickness" as me.

Do you actually have time after all that to check out the programs that you update??  ;D

I look for my MC and that's it till I need another app, then I'll hit update to see if there is before using it....

You're sick :P

You have the first documented case of "Human Computer Virus"; it attacks the Update, Replace, Improve, Fix it all, gland in the brain...  poor boy. :'(

Hope it is not contagious as I often come down with these things. :P

Must have a mild case myself!  First thing I do is check for updates for MC!   My virus scan is on auto update and the other stuff waits for a month or so....more often than not updating MS causes major headaches and as far as updating my Vaio...last time it crashed my machine so hard that I all I could do was a complete re-format - good thing I back up my important stuff to an external...everyday!    ;)

I am trying to cure myself of this illness.

I have restrained myself to the point of reading the daily changes in MC BEFORE I download to determine whether there is anything that I will notice before the next release comes around.

Does it seem like You spend more time doing work on Your updates than You do using the updated stuf? Do You do the same thing everyday? We should start a club  ;D

Updating to update but not to use it. Must be very hard not to update.
Does it burn when there is an update and you can't install it rightaway?

I wasn't an Update Freak until I bought Media Center.  Now the fact that MC is so well supported and constantly updated and improved FORCES me to deviate from my "norm" and continually check for newer versions.
I blame MC :P

It does. Sometimes I get withdrawal symptoms when I know that there is an update waiting for me to install but I am unable to update it at that very moment.

Symptoms include sudden need to surf forums and incontrollable urge to download any new programs (which I have no need for) just to satisfy my urge for updating.

I must have the opposite mallady. Except for the Norton auto update, I don't update anything unless it's broke. Heck, I'm still running MC 9.0!! It hasn't broken yet! 8)

Listening to: 'Spiritual' from 'Beyond The Missouri Sky' by 'Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny' on Media Center 9.0!
Listening to: 'If I Fall... [Naked Spirits Mix]' from 'Reconstructed Soul' by 'Naked Music NYC' on Media Center 9.0!

Ha! When I move anywhere, the first thing I want to get is a DSL connection. Not the location of restaurants, not the local bars, not even mustard (I've had it flown in to me before) has priority over getting online. I lie and tell whoever is assisting me that I need to stay in touch with my family back home. Then as soon as it's connected (1 day in China!), I hit the update sites and beta forums.

I feel much better then  :D

escaflo and most of the others,

There must be a name for this "sickness". I must say that I read this thread with a big grin.  ;D
For me it's impossible to understand this. My brother has a similar sort of thing when there is a new version of "something" the current/older one is instantly degraded to rubbish.
And before he found out about the new version this device/something was very good.

Oh man, you guys are sick.  :P :P Don't think there's a cure for this, but he, smoking is much worse. And I guess neither of you wants to be cured, Therefor, go and update. Jusyt found out that Matt posted a new release.  :o

I'm afflicted too. I check about 3 times a day. On some of those days where there are two updates, it's like a dream.

Unfortunately yes. If those softwares have no updates, I will then pop into Windows Update to see if there's any new patches to download.

I think I am sick. I need a cure.

I'm just a stick in the mud. I have a 1985 Oldmobile and a 1964 Ford Econoline Van. Both are all original, the Ford has 322 000 miles on the original engine. Both run prefectly, so no need to go out and buy new vehicles.

Nope. I do have Winamp installed for comparison. If a file doesn't play well in MC, is it the file or the player?

Otherwise, I have certain apps that I use and that's that.

Well, unless I try something I like better  ;)
