Help with monitor for under $1k
« on: May 05, 2004, 02:16:29 pm »

Hi guys, a friend of mine is currently planning on getting a set of new G5 computers and was wondering which monitors would be best to go with them. So I turn to you to hear what you think.

Some of the info to keep in mind:
- price tag under $1k (for each monitor)
- used for: photoshop, after effects, flash...
- crisp image, high contrast
- resolution: min: 1280x1024 preferred: 1600x1200+++
- CRT vs LCD? I don't care really, it's more a question of which monitor will have the best quality/size ratio for under $1k.
- DVI output on the video card: does it matter?

If you need more information, just let me know and I'll add it.

Thanks in advance,

-Cascius

A highly acclaimed monitor for Photoshop work is the Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 930SB 19 inch CRT monitor.  From what I found, it has the same guts as the LaCie Electron Blue IV, which is a high-end photo-retouching oriented monitor.

I just purchased one about a month ago for $287 from Dell using a 15% off coupon and free shipping :)  So far my only complaint is that it has the two Trinitron "lines", but I knew that before I purchased it.

If they're willing to spend more (still under $1000), I'd take a hard look at the Dell 2001FP 21" LCD monitors.  A little too much for my budget though... :(
