I would be very interested in this, too.  Any chance it will be added?

Can they be played by DirectX? (i.e. played in Windows Media Player, ZoomPlayer, or other similar DirectX players)

If so, it may be as simple as adding the extensions to our supported list.

Let us know.

Yup, with the correct codec they can be played by Windows Media Player.

Basically, it just what u said, it just an extension support.

We'll add it to the next build of MC 11.

If it works for people, hopefully we can migrate it to MC 10 as well.

Most OGM files seem to work if you just rename them to .AVI. It's messy and I'd like proper support, but it works as a temporary measure.

Both are container for media files.

These sites might explain a lot clearer.

i was not even aware that the above were considered containers.

MKV and OGM files are getting very popular and player like Zoomplayer/The Core Media Player now support default audio and subtitle for MKV and OGM files. Now that Media Center 11 can support MKV and OGM files, I will be very happy if it can now specify a default language and subtitle to use for MKV and OGM files.

Well .. hopefully not :)

Waiting for the day where I can just use 1 player instead of 2 now to playback all the media files.

Shouldn't be long now......

When i double click on .mkv files, nothing happens. I have V11, is mkv support working correctly yet or is it still in development?
Do i need to install a codec or something?
cheers

You will need to install Matroska splitter, and appropriate divx, xvid .. or other decoder as what Matroksa and OGM provides is just a container.

http://packs.matroksa.org

Download the Matroksa pack full and it should sort you out for most of the available files including divx and xvid as it uses FFDShow as the decoder.

OK, i've done this and still nothing happens.... an ideas of things i can check? I already had a healthy set of codecs, any chance it's using the wrong ones?

cheers
