Is the only way to save a favorite radio station to submit it to JRiver and have it in their database? My favorite is already there (Radio Paradise) but when I select it from the database I get a message to "Select file to play".

I went to the website and got the URL myself but I can't save it as a favorite unless I submit it to the JRiver database. Of course, I can't do that either because it says it already exists.

I know the real answer is to have the database updated with the correct url but how do I do that. And, why should I be tied to the JRiver database for saving a favorite to "My Stations"?

Well, shortly after this post I went back and tried it again, and it worked. I don't know why I got that message earlier.

Of course, my question still stands. Must a station be in the database for it to be saved in My Stations? I guess there is nothing wrong with that but now I am just curious.

I have completely given up on Radio URL's as they are very flaky... they will work one time & not the next.

Thanks for posting at my thread edbro. For those who didn't read it, many users are having the same problem. It seems the reason is with all Real Audio files (not the media being streamed).

I'm hoping that now that MC10 is released, more emphasis will be placed on bringing the streaming radio capabilities of MC up to the level of the rest of the application.  At the moment, MC's radio capabilities are quite crude compared to it's other uses.

Yeah thats a crude method too.  I made individual playlists and its own playlist group for each station and imported each stream.  Some PLS files point to 5 streams for backup and load sharing.  

The problem here with saving in MC 10 is that the PLS files are really dynamic and change, hence there should be a way of saving your own PLS links within the program.

That web radio, its totally out of date and hard to find stuff.  You have the problem of submitting a station only to be told it already exists and then its hard to find it.

The radio stations should be a separate node on the tree, with a separate screen.  You should be able to define a station PLS, its website and an icon or picture and description for each station

I agree 100%.  Perhaps this will be the selling point for the MC 11 upgrade...

If you already went off to the stations website and dug up the url, and successfully opened it using MC, then simply go to playing now, right click on the station playing and import it to your library.

Tag the stations as you see fit, and use a "web radio" specific tag, for me it's the album, I put them all in an album called radio, then exclude it from the default audio node in the tree. Next, you make a view scheme called web radio, tell it to ignore parent scheme rules, and only include the album "radio".

Job done, enjoy.

I sure hope that we don't have to wait until MC11 for this.  When I was using MC9, I was hoping that MC10 would be the release that added better web radio support.

Not true. Here is the url to my favorite web radio:

This plays fine in MC if I click on the url. But, if I open it from the radio station database in MC I get the dreaded "Select File to Play" message.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that "all" radion stations did this.  I just run into a lot that do, and I don't know how to get these to play in MC instead of WMP.  I edited my other post to be more clear.

Sorry, I don't know the answer to the wmp plugin question.

However, the suggestion to save radio stations to a playlist works great. I wish I had read the help file first, it is mentioned in there.

By the way, I used a similar method of saving, but I used "Web Radio" as a genre rather than a playlist.
