Playback stops after 20-30 seconds
« on: May 23, 2004, 06:49:43 pm »

I'm new to Media Center and just purchased it online to solve a problem that I have.  All of my CDs were ripped with WMA and I wasn't able to play them with Tivo HMO.

I was able to configure the Media Center and found my music available from TiVo.  However, when I try to play music, it alwasy stops after 20-30 seconds.  It pauses and moves to the next song.

Also, I noticed that it displays the wrong song name.  For example, if I'm playing song 1, it shows that it's playing song 2 and the status on the Media Center shows that it's streaming song 2 even though I can hear song 1 playing.  It's very furstrating and I wish I took advantage of the 14-day trial before buying the software.

Are you using Media Server?

And it is serving music files on CD's?

If so, try copying the files to your hard disk (as a test).  You will need to import them and restart Media Server and the client MC.

The Media Server is up and running.  I'm not trying to play CDs.  My music is already ripped and is sitting on my hard disk.  There are 2 to 3 thousand files.

If you will describe more exactly what you are doing (including versions of MC you run), someone may be able to help more tomorrow.

I know about the wrong song bug, it'll be fixed soon.

What happens when you play the songs on the Media Server machine (without Media Server)?

I haven't tried that.  I'll try it when I get home.  Any ideas about why it stops playing and skips to the next song?

There's an odd behavior also on the Media Center, but not quite the same.   If I start playing a song and hit the next button, it keeps playing the current song for a second or two even though the next song is highlighted and shown in the status bar.

That is cross fading. You can change it if you'd like.

Did the songs play fine on Media Center?
