I'm very keen to start using Media Center over iTunes, but won't until I know that I can create dynamic smarlists. I know that there are a lot of other strengths of MC over iTunes, but for me, this capability is critical.

For Example: I create a smart playlist in iTunes called "Unrated" for all unrated songs (rating = 0). I sync this smartlist onto my iPod and unplug the iPod. I then I listen to a song on my iPod and rate it 3 stars. If I do this using iTunes, the smart playlist on the iPod is dynamic and updates itself, resulting in the song I just rated no longer being in the "unrated" smartlist.

Does anyone know if this feature is enabled in MC10 and the latest iPod plug-in? If not when is it expected to be available?

surely determining what should and what souldn't be on a playlist once you have unplugged from the computer is something the ipod is doing, not MC, so would require SteveG to somehow design a whole new firmware for the ipod?

There is not currently a way to do this.

The key to this working is mimicking a complex way of creating the playlists when the playlists are created on iPod from MC. This can be done, but requires a lot of time (no thanks to no documentation from Apple) and we have not had the ability to allocate the time for it yet.

bizzli, as far a i know, there is nothing Itunes can do that MC cannot, so stick with us!

Well let me not agree that MC can do ALL what iTunes can!

Dynamic Smart Lists im MC10 <-> iPod synchronization process is not supported at all at the very moment in MC 10.0.146

I am wondering whether it will make at all in MC 10

Asking for this feature for a long time.

Adding this feature is a matter of allocating the resources to do it. If we can, we will do it but a definitive timeline is unknown.

Well, this will end up being the reason I move to iTunes. As much as I love MC10 I will probably not pay for an upgrade in the future, and will start to play around with iTunes to see if I can get it to do what I need it to do.

Just so you know, I do think MC10 is a fantastic piece of software, but the only reason I use it is to transfer songs to my iPod, so not having dynamic smartlists may send me to Apple.

You've been a great customer.  We appreciate your business and your support, both here and on the iPodlounge forum.

But the iPod architecture has not been an open book for us.  As you know, Apple will not cooperate with us.  I do, however, believe this will change sometime in the next year, perhaps even in a few months.

Not at this time. This issue is somewhat solvable, but we do not have the resources to address it at this time.
