Importing files
« on: June 26, 2004, 02:35:04 pm »

Updated to version to 10 try and rectify a problem encountered with 9 - when importing files MC fails to see all subdirectories.  It gets about a third of them - apparently at random.

The files inside the missed directories are not corrupt.  If I open them directly fromC they play fine.  Winamp is able to see the sub directories and import correctly.

Solution anyone??

Try the advanced import and check the file types you're importing.  Check that you're importing sub-directories.

The sub directory box is checked.  All appropriate file types are checked.

MC is only searching in around 30% of subdirectories - with no discernable pattern.

Try using the browse button to a directory where you think there are files that should be imported.

What file types are missing?

My music files are organized in the standard way
artist/album/file

If I open the Import dialogue and attempt to navigate to a specific file to import, I cannot.  MC displays all of the artist level folders, but does not allow me to open them to view the album level folders.

If I select an artist level folder to import, MC does not go down to the album level folders to import anything.

What file types are the files?  MP3?  WAV?

Try searching for the name of a track you think isn't imported.  It may have been imported.

You're missing the point.  I cannot get into certain directories to import anything.  My import dialogue looks something like this...

+ Gabriel, Peter
   Garbage
   Green Day
+ Hives
   Housemartins

I can only get into the directories with a '+' next to them, even though all of the other directories do have subdirectories with music files in them.

The artist directories marked '+' do not appear to follow any pattern.  There is nothing wrong with those directories.  I can access them through Windows Explorer.  I can import the file they contain into WinAmp.  The only program that has a problem is Media Center

I have made progress.
MediaCenter will not import files in directories marked read only

Why is this?

Another concern importing files - I can't set the folder to search. Every import searches all directories. I've tried excluding folders as well without luck. Any ideas?

There is a browse button.  It has three little dots.  Use it to find a single directory.

Or in Windows Explorer, do right click, media center/import.

I've used the browse function to enter the path on my C:\ drive (where new files are saved) but it always starts at E:\ drive (where all previously imported files are saved).  In Windows Explorer, using right click no longer shows option to import. Is this to do with setting the default player - if this is so how do I change it?
I have had no trouble doing this simple task in the past, but have not used program for the last 8 months.
Anything changed using vers 11.0.46

I had similar problems with earlier versions of MC11.

It seems that on earlier versions of MC11 it would only import all files correctly the first time it was installed if you let it do an automatic import but would mess up big time if you tried a manual import.

It was fixed about 5 or 6 versions ago.

The import function now works ok for me.
