MC 10.0.161 Crashing PC
« on: September 14, 2004, 10:36:46 pm »

MC will play MP3 for a couple of minutes then totally reboot the PC.  So far I have not been able to detect a pattern.

What next?

A reboot is almost always a hardware problem.

Try updating soundcard drivers.  It's also possible you have bad memory or some other device causing troubles.

Using a different output system (WaveOut, DirectX, ASIO) in MC might make a difference as well.

I had a similar problem yesterday. MC would crash (but not reboot the PC...) after about 2 minutes of play on any MP3 I threw at it.

Today I uninstalled the Audioscrobbler plugin and the problem went away.

Coincidence? Not sure.

But do you have the plugin installed by any chance?

Running V11.0.82 here...

Michel.

Some additional info.

About a week prior to the problems I installed a Soundblaster USB sound card.  Used it with no problems up till the crashes started happening.

This past Friday evening I installed Windows Media Encoder 9 on the same PC.  Do not recall if I ran MC prior to Sunday, when the crashes started occuring.  However, Sunday I did us MC for sometime before it started having any problems.

I will uninstall WME and see if it corrects the problem.

Well removing WME did not change anything.  Anyone have any ideas?  Is there any other debug information I can provide?

Try pulling any cards you can, starting with the soundblaster.
