How to play DVD from Hard Drive
« on: September 20, 2004, 03:07:47 am »

What is the best way to get my DVDs onto a hard drive and then to manage/play them from within MC?

I'd like a 'one-click' option for ripping them ideally.

All suggestions appreciated.

After 321 Studios was sued for allowing people to rip DVDs, and subsequently had to go out of business, I doubt you're going to get much help from JRiver on this.

Technically, using DeCSS or any decrypter on a DVD is illegal under the DMCA because you're bypassing an encryption routine.

But a "play from folder" option like WinDVD has would be pretty sweet.

Thanks.

I've been using DVD shrink but I have to rename the VOB files and delete the extra files it creates.

I'll give your SUper DVD ripper a try.

You did say fastest...not smallest. DVD-Decryptor (3.5.1 is latest) with the following options enabled ...

DVD-Decrypt>Tools>Settings>File Mode (tab)>

On Startup>Select Files (combo box)>select Main Movie

and

Options>File Splitting (combo box)>None

These options will create a single (chapterless) file with no xtra garbage. It will still be a mpeg in vob clothing and with no compression...very large (that's where AutoGordianKnot comes in to XviD/DivX it to something less than a GB).

Is it possible to decrypt just a particular chapter?  or scene?  or is this something that should be done with a media editor after ripping the whole DVD (seems like a waste).
