Will not restore
« on: October 29, 2002, 03:05:18 pm »

I have tried repeatedly to restore the registration.
And each time I try I get a window that says registration failed.  I have 12 days left to restore my registration.  I'm not sure what to do or what will happen when the 12 days are up.  Someone please let me know what to do.     Thank you .  Paul  pwhcfhf@aol.com

Yeah, but that's not specific enough. Do like the King asked, post info from Help>System Info (do a copy & paste).

MJ (after it fails to restore) says u have 12 days left?

You have your registration saved somewhere safe?
If so see Xenno's post. It outlines a reinstall and things to check for b4 doing so.

You say your running XP, yet your system info says Win2000. Which is it? Go to Start>Run and type in cmd. In the command window type in winver. What does it say? Your behind on Service Packs....Win2k is up to SP3 and XP is up to SP1. Also, IE6 is up to SP1.

Is your license info safe? If so then uninstall MJ, update your ASPI (v4.72), install the 388 build, and then try to restore your license.

All I know is I like MJ. i DOWNLOADED IT and paid for it, have a instal code and a registration code. I HAVE done everything that I was told. All I get is FAILED to instal. I don't know what to do now! ? Help!!!
Or do I need a refond on my purchase.

Something isn't right with the OS.  What kind of PC is it?  Did you get the orginal OS CD?

Check this link:
http://www.ntfaq.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=15198

Q. Is build 2195 the final version of Windows 2000?

A. Yes, the last build is 2195 which has been released to manufacturing and will be in the shops February 17th 2000. The only difference is the final build will not have the 120 day expiry which the downloaded build 2195 has and that the CD's for 2195 that have been shipped to testers also has. You can check this with WinInfo (http://www.savilltech.com/wininfo.html)

Microsoft have changed there minds about the MSDN version however and the Windows 2000 build 2195 shipping with MSDN will be the FULL, no expiry version. In an effort to stop pirating it will have a hologram visible on both sides of the CD covering the entire surface!

Apart from the 2000/XP issue - did you check the clock?

I am having the same problems as you.  I can't restore my key from the file.

This is a fresh install of windows xp (thanks to a HD failure).  The only thing I have installed is SP1 and fix packs, the toshiba utilities, logitech mouseware, MS XP Powertoys, and Media Jukebox.

Media Jukebox  8.0.388
Install Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\

CPU: Intel Pentium III 44 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 114 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2800.1106
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2800.1106
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2800.1106

Freko,

I think John is referring to how time you have left before you license expires. Until you solve the problem I would set the date back (say 7 days) when expiration looms (within a couple days to be safe).

I think you've got a funky OS installation. The best option is not pretty....

If your XP disk is a full version (and not a upgrade) then I would consider an OS reinstall :'(. Of course, that entails reinstalling all your apps, too :'(.

I don't know what else to tell you. It sounds to me like they installed a pre-release version of XP. If so it's possible your XP CD also fits that description.

Xenno

Jim > Did you retype your sys info or copy & paste? Look at "CPU: Intel Pentium III 44 MHz MMX". See the 44 MHz? If that were true you would be waiting days for XP to boot. Something is still not right with your setup. Maybe it has something to do with Product Activation?

Maybe you guys can trade XP in for Win2k. Just a thought.

I don't think this will work.

MJ seems to detect when a user tries this if in Trial mode this will Expire the 30 day trial.

I mean make sure your system time (usually the lower right corner of your screen) is reasonably correct. I do not mean adjust it randomly. Don't mess with the clock to try and subvert the licensing scheme (whether for legit or other purposes).

Please contact me at gateley @ jriver.com on a related issue.

If it is XP, do you have permission to change the registry? (Are you logged in as administrator or someone else)?

What are the exact steps you are taking and the exact results (including cut and paste) of the error message?
