For the past few versions, MC has been crashing in the middle of songs. I do not know what causes this.

I recently upgraded to SP2 and this might have something to do with it. Also, I have WMP 10 installed. This happens whether i have any DSP plugins loaded or not.

So here's some info about the error and my system info:

Note this: mcscrobbler.dll

It means the Audio Scrobbler plugin is crashing.

For the benefit of those who may not be familiar with it, Audioscrobbler is not part of Media Center.  It's a third party plug-in.

Audioscrobbler uploads a list of what you're playing and helps you find others who are playing similar music.  Cool plug-in.

Here's what the problem was: I hadn't been able to register to audioscrobbler because their site was down. Th plugin would still try to connect or something of the kind and end up crashing MC...

Anyway, it's fixed now.

I had this problem occasionally where it would "lose" my login information in the plugin (username and password were blanked out).  When it tried to submit the song (which it does after 50% of the song is played) it would crash MC.

Open the 'plug ins' tab in MC and click on the Audioscrobbler plug-in.  There is a field there for your username & password.

iCamp, hold me by the hand one minute more. I go to Tools > Plug-in Manager > From the list that I get here, which includes  Display, DSP, Encoder, Handheld, Input, Interface, Output and Remotes, I select Interface (because that's the only one I see with an Audioscrobbler reference). I click on AudioScrobbler on the left and I am shown Plug-in Information on the right. I see what Name, I see what Version, I see what Mode, I see other stuff... but I see no place for me to enter my username and password.

Tell me I'm doing something wrong - I've got to be, haven't I??

Upon clicking it, the right pane will display the configuration page for the plugin. In the uper left corner, you should enter the login info.

Alas, I don't have what you refer to as "the root item 'plug-ins'". If you take a look at the following screenshot, you'll see what I am experiencing.

FYI I'm running MC 10.0.116.

Once again: You start MC. In the far left you should have the tree (on top: 'Start' , then 'playing now' etc.).

Now expand 'Plugins'. Click 'AudioScrobbler'. You should see Nel's pic. Forget the Plug-in Manager.

I'm not a clueless user, but I'm certainly having problems with this.

I see Start, Playing Now, Media Library, Playlists, Drives & Devices. There is no reference to plugins in this list, nor in the subcatagories, therefore I can't see Audioscrobbler either.

Any further guidance?

I asked myself if it's only working with MC 11. But I have both versions installed here. And even in MC 10 I have the 'Plug-ins'. So I can't help you. Maybe you ask the author himself?

Got it!

I had to start the plug in from the plugin manager to get the Plugin option to appear in the tree on the left.

When I was testing this out, and following your instructions, the plugin was turned off in the plugin manager.

So here is the process...
I have a profile and > 7000 counts
I got no audiscrobbler submissions from MC one day. WinAmp did send stuff to the server, so that explanation was ruled out.

I tried reinstalling the plugin

From that day on, MC will not start at all (runtime error).

Anyone has had this problem before?
Any known solutions?

1.  Log in.

2.  Contact audioscrobbler support on their forum.

3.  Remove the plug-in.

I don't think this is A J River Issue If audioscrobbler has problems running correctly within J River's media center.

I don't have the plug-in, but if you go to the registry and change the "PluginMode" from 1 to 0 MC for this plug-in MC should boot. Since this will keep the plug-in from running when MC Boots.

Uninstall this plug-in

and go get support from whom ever made it

I believe I have solved this issue.   I can't fix the plugin, but I have a workaround.
Here's what I found.....

When you go into the plugin settings and fill in your login/password info, or change the options and click the apply button, it saves to the audioscrobbler.ini file located here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Library\audioscrobbler.ini

Now, I noticed that when starting up MC and pulling up the plugin settings again, the login/password is of course blank now.  Turns out it was attempting to read, and not finding, the audioscrobbler.ini file because it was looking for it here:

E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\audioscrobbler.ini.    (note the lack of the Library folder in the path).

So, here's the fix.  Substitute your own paths.
Go into MC and edit the audioscrobbler plugin settings.
Fill in your login info.  Click the login and apply buttons.
Leave MC as is....
Using windows explorer, find your audioscrobbler.ini file in a path similar to above, in the Library folder.
Copy that audioscrobbler.ini down one level to the Media Center 11 folder and save it there.

Now close MC and restart.
Check to see if the login info is still there.
High-five me if it works.

Please test and report your results.
