MC 11: New Mix Smartlist Rule
« on: October 26, 2004, 05:18:50 pm »

MC 11.0.111 adds a new smartlist modifier to allow building a mix of songs using certain ratios.  For example, you can build a mix that's 75% classic rock and 25% alternative rock.

Here's the syntax:
~mix=NUMBER_OF_FILES,%_1,SEARCH_1,%_2,SEARCH_2,%_3,SEARCH_3,etc.

Example:
~mix=1000,75%,[Genre]=[Classic Rock],25%,[Genre]=[Alternative Rock]

You can use any search and any number of searches.  However, using commas or parenthesis in the searches won't work properly yet.

The numbers don't need to add up to 100.  ~mix=500,2,rock,1,folk will play 500 songs with twice as much rock as folk.

Enjoy :)

great addition, been hoping for something like this.

anyway to put fills in the next round of playing instead of in the mix?

what I mean is if you specify 1000 songs and there isn't enought to make the cut, it will put in the duplicates to make the % number. This is fine but I see that it's doing it after 6-8 songs it will repeat the same track again.

what I think would be best it to cycle over, but random for the fills.

also...any way (option) to make sorting defined like Rock, Country, etc.  I mean..if 50/50 for both of them, alternate the genres in the list. if 2/1, do the same: Rock, Rock, Country.

~mix=10000,1,[Rating]=?,1,[Rating]=2,1,[Rating]=3,1,[Rating]=4,1,[Rating]=5

The unknown raters I haven't rated yet.
2's are old fogey music.
3's are young punk music.
4 is really good music.
5 is really really good music.
1 is music I've got that I never want to hear again.

So this gives me an equal mix between songs I haven't heard, old fogey music, and young punk music, and spiced with songs I really like or really really like.

Thanks Matt!

Fantastic addition, Matt! Thank you very much.

This will simplify a lot my workaround

Tonight's build better handles commas and quotes in the searches.

A sample now looks like this:
~mix=1000,75%,{[Genre]=[Classic Rock]},25%,{[Genre]=[Alternative Rock]}

Although the curly braces are only really needed when you use commas and quotes.

I like this since I do own an ipod and will deffinetely use it with that.

One thing Id like to ask for is a smartlist that is based on the currently playing song.  So that when I hear a song I like I can then go to that smartlist which could be based on year, genre, bpm etc.. rather than having to first look up the information for that song and then search the media library for songs that fit that data.

An Idea on how to better use the "locate" feature.  Im thinking of creating a semicolon delimited field that would contain genres, year, bpm, intensity, and maybe a few others that i have.   Is there anyway of going about putting all of this data into a single field for each individual song automatically rather than user input and then using the locate feature on that field?

Thank you so much matt,

I was just starting to build another one of my convoluted Smartlists, but now that is unneccesary.  Great Work.
