I am new here and a true novice at this. When trying to copy an audio file to a CD, I get the following message:

Failed to find any CD-R/W devices on your system.

I have installed formatted and unformatted CD-R/Ws with the same results. Any suggestions?

I am running an HP Pavilion with Windows 98. It also has the Adaptec Easy CD Creator which was bundled with the original software.

Hi,

Based upon what you have stated about your system configuration;

The Adaptec CD-Creator app on Win 98 and higher sometimes creates problems with the ASPI layer when you use other apps that use the interface to communicate with your CDRW Drive  -

I don't know if you are technical or not, but I'm going to assume that you are for the time-being.

What you need to do is:

a. Ensure that you can "see" the drive from the DOS CLI
b. Ensure that your ASPI Layer is the latest; go to:

www.adaptec.com/support

and obtain 2 downloadable files; ASPI32 & ASPICHK

c. Unzip and execute ASPICHK to find out where you are; chances are you will need the other file to update your ASPI layer. ASPICHK will tell you whether or not you need the updates from the other file.

d. Ensure that Adaptec CD-Creator is NOT running ANYWHERE on your system; it has been known to run in the background, ensure that your Win Startup file does not show Adaptec's app starting up. Also ensure that Adaptec's CD-Creator is not assigned to automatically run against a blank CDR disc in your drive.

Hi,

Okay, thanks for the MJ Info. It appears that your ASPI Layer is down-rev at 4.60. The current rev is 4.71, I think.

My advice to you is to check out the process I indicated to you earlier in this thread prior to your MJ Info post.

You might want to post a new topic along the lines of ASPI or CDRW issues..."error messages" as a topic is too general...but I'm not the admin on this board...
