Sorting when burning
« on: October 25, 2002, 04:17:35 am »

I would like to arrange my songs in my order to make a party CD, then burn them in the same order. However, they always end up sorted alphabetically. How can I do this? I'm a newbie, so sorry if this has been answered  before.

Try adding all the songs you want to burn to a playlist open the playlist in playing now and then burn.  This should burn them in the playlist order...

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I've had this problem with MusicMatch, and the only remedy is to manually rename every tune to something like "001 - xxxxx", which makes making custom playlists a real pain in the ass.

I haven't seen a jukebox program that does anything but burn in alphabetical order, even they all claim they can do it. I don't know why this is such a big deal, or maybe I am the only one asking for it <g>.

Select the tracks in the order you want them to burn
Right-click and go to "Properties"
"Tools->Fill Track Numbers from List order"
Rename files from tag using "TRACK # - ARTIST - NAME" or whatever else you want - track # goes first.
Save in a playlist and go to burn.
If you don't want to rename the files permanently, copy them to a temp directory, do the above and delete them after a successful burn.
It's not MJ. It's the player. They arrange according to file name. At least mine does. I guess yours does, too.
The above applies to MP3 disks only. A CDA should behave as NoCodeUK says.

Most players (all that I've seen anyway) will only read data discs in alphabetical order.  I may be mistaken but I believe that the playlist file (m3u) generated by MJ on the CD will maintain the order of the music that you set.  If your player can read playlist files you should be set.

Anybody please correct me if I'm wrong.  I'm not at my home machine where I can verify this.
