Rio S10/S30S
« on: October 16, 2002, 04:00:14 pm »

I just picked up Rio's new S30S MP3 player (love it, BTW).  Anyone know if any of the current Rio plugins will support this device?  It uses MMC expansion cards.

steves,

My best guess is that one of the Rio 600/800/900/Nike Plug-ins will work, I just don't know which. I just emailed my contact at SonicBlue to have him verify this for me. Sorry I don't have these players here to test this for you.

Just bought the Rio S30S and tried it will all of the Rio plug-ins.  None of them work.  Think support will come out soon?

Big_Dave,

I just got a reply today from SonicBlue which said that they do not have anything for me at this time which could provide support, but they are checking and will let me know when I can expect to see something.

I will update as I know more.

Hello,

I also got the S30 today. when we get the plugin this will be solved but for now here is my question.

I encoded all my cds in mp3 320 thinking well do it once and be done. For portable devices this creates a file size issue. Does anybody have an idea, tip how I can create easily smaller mp3 files @128 from 320 or should I convert to wma?
Thanks

Fabian,

If we get a Plug-in working, MJ has an option to allow on the fly conversion of the files, meaning that you can select your 320kbps files and have MJ automatically convert them during the transfer to your Rio.

I just sent this. Hope that helps

Hello,

Just bought the S30. love it.

I however use mediajukebox from JRiver for all my mp3 files and do not intend to switch to real under any circumstances.

Mediajukebox supports other Rio players and I understand that SonicBlue needs to release some info in order for third party vendors to create plugins.

I am begging you! Please Provide JRiver the support he needs in order to develop this plugin.

Thanks

I have sent a similar message to sonicblue and would suggest anyone eager to use the S30 or S35 do the same to put a little pressure on them.

I received the necessary files from SonicBlue today and have just posted some Plug-ins that should work. I do not have any of these players so if you could test them out and let me know of any issues, that would be great.

Thanks,

Hello,
I installed the plugin and the S30 was recognized no problem. I deleted mp3 from the S30 from within MJ.
But I have trouble loading songs to the device.

This is the way I tried it.
1. select the song
2. Right click and select : Send to device S30

Now I check in the S30 device Tab but there is no song. I must be doing something wrong.

Thanks

I can't help much, but I know it is a two step process.  First you que the files you want (which you did) and then you upload them.

Almost there...  the plug-in intializes fine, it shows the songs loaded on the MP3 player and deletes songs fine.  However when songs are queued to the player they are not shown on the screen and there are no "upload" or "options" buttons as with other players.

SteveG - any ideas?

Thanks.

Big_Dave and Fabian,

After you do send-to, click on the device name in the left tree and you will see the queued files and the options for uploading. FYI, you can also drag and drop the files directly on the memory type (i.e Internal Memory) beneath the player in the left tree.

This works great.

one more question. Which format is best to encode for a portable device & with an ok playback quality? I use mp3@128 but i was wondering if anybody recommends another endoding.

Thank You so much for the plugin.

Still having trouble.  When I click on the device name, the screen is identical to when I click on "Internal"  Apparently it's working for other folks, so is this a problem specific to my setup?  What's going on?

Thanks.

I had the plugin installed and had the same screen as you. Then later when I plugged in the rio player, Windows XP asked me to reinstall the hardware, which I did. Maybe that will solve your setup

Big_Dave,

Just to be sure we are on the same page, did you drop a file onto "Internal" before returning to the root level?

Fabian, this is a very subjective question with the trade off being size vs quality. I think it depends alot on the type of music being transferred.

All of a sudden it is working. I've done nothing different...very strange. Hmm... Well I'm happy!!  Great little MP3 player.  Thanks SteveG.

New problem.  I can't seem to upload WMA files to the Rio S30 using MJ.  MP3 files upload fine and play fine.  When I upload a WMA file, it appears to go smoothly and displays on the device as though it has loaded, however, if I try to play the song, the player jams up and resets.  I've tried this with several different files and get the same problem.  If I upload the exact same files using the included Rio software they play fine.  I'm using the WMA encoder downloaded from the MJ website, which used to work fine with my old Nike Rio PSA.

Any thoughts?

Big_Dave,

I don't have an S30 to test this on. The nearest thing I have is a 600 and an 800 (both of which function very similarly to the S30) and with both of these wma transfer works great.

Can anyone else with an S30 duplicate Big_Dave's problem?

Thanks,

Steve

I only encoded to mp3 which works fine, so I took an mp3 and uploaded it as a wma. The upload worked great but the player would identify it as an mp3 and displays a ?K as file size. Then if I press play it stops and reboots.

Fabian and Big_Dave,

I think I found and fixed something that will take care of this. Can you download the latest Plug-in (3.0.12) and let me know how it turns out.

Thanks,

Steve

I can't get the latest plug-in to install.  I uninstalled the previous plug-in first.  When I download the new one, it states that it has been successfully installed, however I cannot find the device in the tree or in the plug-in manager.  No files have been changed in the plug-in file folder, either.

P.S. Any chance you could put the old plug-in back up in the meantime?  I am currently unable to download anything to my mp3 player.  Thanks.

Big_Dave,

There was a problem with the download page which caused your error. Could you uninstall and then reinstall the Plug-in. I think everything is better now.
