MC11, significant loss of existing song names after import
« on: December 01, 2004, 07:54:45 am »

MC11 .133.

Had a media library with ~10500 songs with all but ~200 correctly named and tagged.

Did import on one directory which contains ~2000 of these songs already in the media library, and to which I had added ~280 new songs.  Import process seemed normal.

After this import, though, ~3300 existing songs have lost their name in media library.  Only name field appears affected - now an empty string - while artist, album, year, genre are still intact.  The songs affected tend to be grouped by album, but their location does not follow a clear pattern - some were under the same directory where import was done, some were in other directories, many were on removable media.

Are there any saved logs or human readable info to check in the media library to try to post-mortem this?  Thanks.

By default, MC makes a backup before changing anything during an import.  Use File > Library > Restore Library... to restore it.

Any tips on how to reproduce the problem would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks Aaron.

I was able to restore the library.

No further insight on cause though.  A closer look at the songs affected still gave no discernible pattern on filename, location, artist, genre, etc.

I found the saved logs in application data.  The import log was normal - found ~280 new songs and a bunch of .m3us it always finds for some reason, imported the songs successfully and says failed on the .m3u files, just like any other import.

I reran import on the same directory, unable to repro the error.

I saw this too, from upgrade of 127 to 133, files that were fine for years just lost their name part of the tag...a backup from the day earlier restored the problem, but I didn't even do an import, it just started up that way after the upgrade...

Are you using any third party plug-ins with MC?

No 3rd party plugins in my case, only plugin I attempted was Nomad Jukebox 2 plugin from J River.

I use AV2 plug, no other plugs installed (I usually use the Nomad Jukebox plug as well but I have yet to install in 11).
