Short tracks end early
« on: October 27, 2002, 09:23:52 am »

I've got some sound clips of Simpsons in mp3 format and have imported into MJ.  These are very short sound files, less than 60 seconds.  MJ seem to chop off the last few seconds of the tracks when there is another track waiting to be played (more than one track selected).  I added 2 seconds of silence to the end of each track, no help.  I converted to ape format, no help.

This problem has never happened with longer stuff in any format, so the problem must be how short these sound files are.

And WinAmp plays them just fine.

Hi,

Did you try to  play with the various playback options ?

(Settings/Options/Playback)

You can start by using gapless playback with standard or gapless seeking

Also try Output/Settings and play with the performance slider, this controls
the playback buffer, try 'more responsive'.

I was already on gapless.  I did increase the responsive slider and it seems to help some.

However, MJ does not work well with < 4 second files at all.  It seems to spend more time buffering than playing.

I do have a Audiophile2496 sound card for MJ's use.  I also have a cheapie sound card as my default playback device.  That way all windows sounds come out of my computer speakers and MJ audio comes out of the 2496 card to my audio system.

When playing a series of very short files, some come out my computer speaker and others come out of the 2496 card.

And again, all files playback just fine using WinAmp.

There **used to be** a bug in MJ when playing short MONO files.  They were cutting off for me, too.  I thought Matt said they had fixed it, but I'm not sure--I converted all of my short files to stereo mp3's just to avoid the problems.  No problems since.
