Tivo with built in DVD Recorder
« on: December 08, 2004, 05:31:18 pm »

All,

Apart from the obvious simplicity of having the DVD Burner built in to the Tivo, is it worth the money to combine these 2 products ?

Is is possible to buy a standard Tivo and then send the data to an external DVD burner, say in a PC ?

You can't get at the files the TiVo saves unless you hack it.

True how Tivo2Go is supposed to be out early next year - the official route to archiving media - depends what you want to do with the DVD, if you want to give it to other people you might be out of luck.  If you just want to archive for your own use (i.e. replay on the Tivo) you'll be OK.

I have a Pioneer 810H and it is certainly convenient to dump stuff to DVD - there were issues early on with pixelation - now fixed (and of course the unit is much cheaper now :)
