MC 11.0.161 - iRiver H140 transferring
« on: December 23, 2004, 03:15:54 am »

Hi,

I have setup MC to recognise my iRiver as a hand-held (iHP-140 at I:\).   How do I tell MC to write tracks according to the tagging information?

For example on my main machine I have the album "Heaven and Hell" by "Vangelis" located at:

E:\My Music\Vangelis\1975 - Heaven and Hell\01 - Heaven and Hell Part 1 + So Long Ago, So Clear.mp3
E:\My Music\Vangelis\1975 - Heaven and Hell\02 - Heaven and Hell Part 2.mp3

On the H140 my Vangelis directory is located at:

I:\My Music\Vangelis

Which MC quite happily recognises when it scans my hand-held and I can see the existing Vangelis tracks on there.

When I transfer this album to the H140 I would like these to be written to:

I:\My Music\Vangelis\1975 - Heaven and Hell\01 - Heaven and Hell Part 1 + So Long Ago, So Clear.mp3
I:\My Music\Vangelis\1975 - Heaven and Hell\02 - Heaven and Hell Part 2.mp3

In other words:

[ROOT]\My Music\[ALBUM YEAR] - [ALBUM]\[TRACK#] - [TRACK]

However in MC when I:

1)  Select Media Library > Audio > Artist/Album > Vangelis > Heaven And Hell
2)  Right click and select Send To > Drives & Devices > iHP-140
3)  Click on transfer and hit OK

The files are written to the root directory, i.e.:

I:\01 - Heaven and Hell Part 1 + So Long Ago, So Clear.mp3
I:\02 - Heaven and Hell Part 2.mp3

So is this possible?   I checked in the options screen but couldn't find anything obvious.

I want to reformat the drive and re-populate the device but I don't fancy the idea of having 5000+ tracks sitting in the root directory.

Nevermind, figured it out.

You have to right-click on the device to select how to name the files on the device when transferring.   May I suggest that you put that in the Handheld/Configure transfer options screen.

That would make a lot of sense, particularly as you can use different options for different devices.

Good idea. MC 11 will address moving most features into the Tools->Options from the right click. It will be after the new year.
