Ripping problem 11.0.105
« on: October 20, 2004, 03:26:20 pm »

I have had this happen a couple of times this afternoon.
I have two CD drives and am ripping from both. I get an error message unable to connect to the YADB database and end up with Unknown Artists et al in the rip list.
Once I get this error it does not seem to want to try going out to the YADB database again. I can go to another system here and the CD is found just fine and all of the info comes up. I've tried changing CD drives, loading unloading multiple time and restarting MC. All I get is unknown.

Any ideas why this would happen? I end up having to rip on the other system and then importing it back.

Thanks

There was a somewhat similar problem reported and solved recently.  See the network card problem here:

Don't mean to appear slow but I'm not sure how my problem is connected.

I am running XP Pro SP1, I am not trying to run over a network connection and MC does not crash or hang up.

MC just decides that is not going to recognize a particular CD no matter what I do. I can continue on with other CD's just fine.

When MC attempts to connect to YADB is the result of this check stored somewhere so that MC will not go out to YADB again?

As I said I can go to another system and can rip the CD just fine. Just not on the system where the error occured.

Thanks

I was guessing from your description that the network was unavailable (weak wireless connection, for example).

Try a right click on the CD for other options.

When you say right click are you talking about the update from options.
They don't change anything. It still comes up as unknown.

I am playing with it to see if I can get it to happen consistantly.

See my new post: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=25267.0 ; I'm having some of the same issues.

You can generally get MC to "forget" the CD by deleting  Unknown/Unknown form the database, closing MC, and restarting it.  This USUALLY works for me, occasionally it doesn't.
