"Lost" Album Art
« on: January 25, 2005, 10:46:33 am »

I have "lost" the album art for many files again.
I've lost count of the number of times this has happened, but I always allowed the possibility that another tool was causing the problem.

However, I have not used anything except MC to play/tag/touch the files in quite sometime.

I recently had to add art to 1000s of files. I know they were there after reboots, etc.

Just now I was creating playlists and noticed that the tooltip had no image. Playing the files and looking at Track Info showed no cover art as well.

For an APL, if I show File Type Info, it has the correct path and filename for the cover art.

Cover Art (front): D:\Documents and Settings\Gary\My Documents\My Music\The Beatles\Beatles 1\Folder.jpg

If I try to use Quick Find, it fails to add art, probably because there is an entry for it already.

First, ideas why the art suddenly quits being displayed?
Second, ideas on how to get them back without doing the manual "Add from file"?

Thanks.

It would I'm sure.
However, for whatever reason I can't get to your site from here. Sometimes from China you get to sites. Sometimes you don't.

I have visited your site before, so I'm sure it will come back again.
The Great Firewall has been in overdrive recently due to certain events.
When things return to 'normal' all will be well.

Meantime, the way MC displays cover art and the way it finds it don't seem to use the same methods.

If they did, I'd either have art displayed or MC would add the art from the folders. The way it stands, I have no display yet file info shows that there is cover art.

Losing it is annoying at best. To not be able to 'find' it again means that you have to add it manually (or 3rd party).

MC should be doing this in my opinion.

I too keep getting lost cover art for some reason. On one computer I have a subset of my MP3 files and every file had a cover art assigned in the cover art directory. Yesterday, I was playing a song and suddenly no cover art for that song. The file it was supposedly assigned to was completely gone from the cover art directory. I only use MC and KingSparta's new CoverArt program, and that was only to help set them up originally.

It seems like the only surefire solution is to store the covers inside the MP3 files but I don't really want to take up unnecessary space. I'm not crazy about making each of the covers folder.jpg's in the respective folders.

So until I can figure out why this keeps happening, I want to keep a copy of the cover art file in each respective artist folder as the same name, not folder.jpg. Unfortunately I'm going to have to go through the copying process manually.   :(

The problem I've seen with cover art and MC, for me, was that:

(All my mp3 have cover art inside tags)

The firt times I used MC, I configured it like that:
Options.../Save cover art when possible --> unchecked
Options.../Update tags when file info changes --> checked

And when MC updated file (because of a rating change, for example), it rewrote tags without cover art inside, but saved a jpg file in a MC directory.

setting Options.../Save cover art when possible checked, solved the problem.

It's not like your problem, but I wanted to notice that.
