Media Server on MC 11
« on: January 26, 2005, 06:07:07 am »

Hi

 ?
How can I install it?
When I press Tools/Advanced Options/Media Server it returns:
"File 'C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Media Server.exe' is not found."

Tks

Use Library Server under Plug-ins in the tree of MC.  Media Server will be removed.

You can find out more by searching on "Library Server".

Jim

But the option in Tools/Advanced Options/Media Server don't work.
The Library Server was installed and started.
This option options will be disabled?

Make Sure You Have A Current Version Of MC

And Follow What JimH Said

Use Library Server under Plug-ins in the tree of MC.

Library Server Is What The New Server Name Is

Media Server Is The Old Name And That Option Should Have Been Removed.

The first thing I do when I install new software is to go through the options and settings to see what the software can and can't do.
I think it is only natural to see an option and assume that it is supposed to work not search for the replacement.
For the number of times this issue comes up wouldn't it be easier to remove the option at least from the menu even if removing the code is much harder.

Of course J River will eventually remove it. Besides the big changes there are many small items that need to be fixed before the program is ready. MC11 is a work on progress and not meant for novices. It is reasonable to assume that the users follow the discussions on this forum.

One thing that we sometimes tend to forget is that any feedback is welcome, but it would be nicer for everybody if it were given in constructive manner.  :)

I understand your point.
As a project manager I have had to deal with the quick fixes that soon add up to hours taken away from the main timeline of a project meaning slipping milestones etc.
I am wondering then if the forum should really be spilt so that issues for the various versions of MC don't get intermixed.
If you follow the forums many issues are resolved in MC11 and more than once I have seen encouragments to go to MC11 because it is pretty solid. As a result you may have people who don't fully understand where MC11 stands as a product despite the disclaimer on the download post. A separate forum may reinforce the alpha/beta or whatever status.
I know what I am suggesting is probably more work than anyone wants to take on right now but it is just a suggestion.

Hi

Since we have as much topics from Media Server/Library Server why we don't have a documet exclusively about this?
I am also a software developper and supose that while this was a alfa/beta version, all the options that appear in them have any possibilty to change. So, when I ask why exists that option it was only a suggestion, it was for help the MC developpers.
I use MC 11 because I want it better and I buy it for this (like I was a user from MJ 7, MC 8, MC 9, MC 9.1 and MC 10).
I thing that all the MC11 users thing so and want help JRiver and us.
So, I thing that's a respect lack when our questions was not likely answered.
At last, nor all users have de same form to use MC and my problems need the same respect that the others.
Sorry for this rellief, but I thing so!
