Support for Roku Soundbridge?
« on: February 19, 2005, 11:28:03 am »

Hi, I am playing with the trial version of MC now.  I was wondering if I could somehow get the Media Server feature to work with my Roku Soundbridge: http://www.rokulabs.com/products/soundbridge/index.php

The soundbridge supports the following media servers:

Windows Media Connect (UPnP Windows Media DRM 10 protocols)
iTunes (Rendevouz protocol)
Rhapsody (proprietary Rhapsody protocol)
Musicmatch Jukebox (UPnP AV protocol)
WinAmp (UPnP AV protocol)
SlimServer (SlimServer protocol)

The User Manual PDF is here http://www.rokulabs.com/support/SBguide-012105-3.pdf

I would love to hook up the MC to Roku -- then I can get rid of the headache that is iTunes.

Thanks,
Davis

There's partial support for the Roku in MC11 (beta on this board).

You'll also find a thread on UPnP here that explains more.

Thanks Jim,

I am well on my way.  D/L / bought MC 11.  Got UPnP working great over wired LAN, but it is a bit flaky over Wi-Fi.  So far, I have had some success with it.  Am streaming music to Roku right now over wireless.

Very excited about this.  I used to use Helium2 music manager -- but I have seen the light.  MC is way better.   Now that it works with Roku and can control iPod, it is the single source for all I need.  I can get rid of WinAmp, iTunes, Helium, etc.

Keep up the good work.

Hi, I have an issue I am trying to solve with the Roku and MC 11.

Here are the steps I do to repeat the problem:

1) Turn on Roku
2) It finds the MC server and connects
3) Navigate to "Browse"
4) Navigate to "Audio"
5) It displays something like..."searching..." and then times out and reports:
6) Failed to load browse data > OK <

However, If I navigate back up and choose Playlists, I can successfully stream and play songs via a Playlist.

I have captured the following data to try to help debug this problem.  I also have a captured Ethereal packet data session, but it does not appear that I can attach it via the BB.  If you give me an email address, I will attach the Ethereal session that can be looked at.

Ethereal Network Snoop Capture
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is attached as a separate file.
Ethereal and WinPCAP can be downloaded from http://www.ethereal.com/download.html
Captured with Ethereal 1.0.9 and WinPCAP 3.0

This file is saved in the format of LibPcap and Ethereal, so it requires you to have Ethereal to open it.
It gives a complete trace of the network traffic between around 8:08 AM and 8:10 AM.
During this time, I tried browsing the Audio in Roku, and failed..and then around 8:09:33 I started streaming by going through a Playlist instead.

It's probably a timing issue.  A smaller library might work for now.

We can probably fix it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Great -- please let me know if there is anything else I can help provide to help solve this issue.

Hi,
i'm having the same problem when browsing on my Roku:
<- Roku Reports: Failed to load browse data > OK <

My library has 12227 files, 409 Artist, 986 Albums.
It depends on my view schemes if i'm able to browse or not.
It only works if there is few data to browse.
I'm using a wired LAN connection.

I have roughly the same size library -- around 13K files, etc.

I have found a slight workaround by creating lots of playlists that chop the library up into smaller pieces -- but still I would like to have the ability to browse all artists, albums, etc.

Just more information on UPnP for those that want to test.

There is a rudimentary but decent UPnP tester for Win32 here:

http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=dstools

Interesting that it discovers the Media Center, but the Media Center doesn't really seem to export any services?

http://www.intel.com/technology/upnp/download.htm

Here is Intel's test suite and diagnostic tools for UPnP.  I have had some problems with these tools.  Checking the forums:

http://softwareforums.intel.com/ids/board?board.id=70

...there appear to be all kinds of problems with WinXP and SP2 and .NET junk here.  I could only successfully get the Device Sniffer to work, but not the other tools.  If I started up the Lightbulb, I could detect that with the other tools.  These tools could not detect the Media Center at all -- except the Device Sniffer.
