Does UPnP server support WAV files?
« on: February 20, 2005, 09:59:50 am »

I just downloded MC 11 with the latest UPnP server.  It appers to work very well with my hard wired Streamium SL400i.  Great Job!

Only one MAJOR problem:  I can't play my WAV files!  When I try, the Streamium says it's an invalid format.  If I set the server to encode to MP3, I can play my files just fine.  Image files (JPG) work OK as well.

Is this expected or am I doing something wrong?

I bought ver 10 and I really like it.  I'd love to use your server (looks like the best one out there by far), but since all my files are in WAV format, it's currently of limited use for me.

Thanks in advance for any help....

Myron,

For some reason my Streamium 400 fails to see the Media Centre UPnP server.
It gives error messages of the type below.
Did you have any problems like this initially ?  Any ideas ?

Wal

Wal,

I never saw a problem like yours.  In fact, the latest version of the server works quite well now, as it supports WAV files.  The only basic functions still not implemented are shuffle and alphabetic search.

John Gateley should be able to tell you what the log means.  I assume the unit works with the Philips Media Manager - if so then it's some sort of network or configuration issue.  Sorry, I'm not smart enough to say much more...

Hi Wal,

Check the UPnP thread for more details. In short, try starting the server first, then the streamium, and vice versa. One of the two should work.

If not, then it's something more complex, the network is the first place to look.

Thanks guys - turns out it was just the Windows Firewall - I'd forgotten to tell it to treat Media centre as an exception. All OK now.
