ASIO--Clicks, hiccups, etc.
« on: March 09, 2005, 02:38:37 pm »

After using MC/MJ for several years now with no clicks/pops, etc. I recently switched to an Emu 0404 sound card with ASIO.

My previous card was a Stereo-Link USB. No clicks or pops. It just doesn't sound as good as the Emu.

Great SQ but now I get clicks and other artifacts especially when I maximize MC from the tray--open my email client--and certain other navigation moves.

I seem to be able to surf web with no interference. Seems to happen mainly when MC is maximized (I think).

What can I do to rid myself of the clicks?

Could it be a hardware IRQ sharing issue?
You might want to try and move the card to a different slot, or disable any onboard components you're not using on your motherboard.

Thanks Jim.

I don't think it's that one. It doesn't happen with that kind of pattern or regularity--certainly not on every track.

It only seems to happen when I'm doing something else in MC--or opening another application when MC is open--and even then not necessarily repeatable with the same action.

I checked my drive for fragmentation. I looked at the Task Manager to see if the CPU was maxing out. Nothing there. I've got 768 MB of RAM--using only a fraction of that.

Is there some kind of buffer thing between ASIO/MC that could be causing this?

I uninstalled all the old Creative SB Audigy software before installing the Emu software.

If it were an IRQ issue wouldn't it be more constant? This is a once-in-a-while deal provoked by navigation from within MC. No other abnormalities.

Try a google search for similar problems.   There are many causes.

Via chipset for one.

Make sure you don't have sound on the motherboard that's also enabled.  Bios settings for that.

Other software?  Try killing them.
