In MC 11.0.211, the encoder plugins were changed. One of the effects is that some of the encoder settings were lost, and reverted to default. For ripping, burning, converting file formats, handheld conversion, and the 3 servers (Library, TiVo and UPnP), you will need to inspect these settings and change them.

In particular, the "convert files" setting used in many places was turned off.  For example, if your library is APE files, and you were playing them on a Philips Streamium using conversion to mp3, after installing 11.0.211 (or later) you can no longer play.

Please check your settings.

One thing that changed is now the JRiver Encoder plugins (well, most of them) are IVersion 4 instead of 3 as previously.  The encoders which still are IVersion 3 are not being found from the System Registry.  Besides mine (FLAC), the WMA Lossless and WMA VBR are also missing.

For kicks, I tried just updating my IVersion to 4.  That makes it show up in MC 11.0.218, but when I actually went to set my Rip settings to FLAC, the whole shebang (MC) just crashed and disappeared with no error messages.

Did the interface requirements change for IVersion 4 and MC 11.0.211+?  Or are you just overlooking the IVersion 3 plugins?

The interface changed to version 4.  We'll try to get the documentation and plugins page updated soon.

I cannot encode in mpc anymore, spite the fact that the mpc encoder is being succesfully downloaded and installed according to MC11, the encoder is not visible under encoding options.

Contacting the specific author of the mpc encoder is not viable, as he is not active in the field of making mpc-compatible software anymore, so I hope that JRiver will in some way make the mpc encoder compatible to MJ11..?

JRiver has changed the interface for the encoder plugins.  The plugins which they are responsible for have been updated.  All other encoder plugins will be unavailable in future releases unless the authors update their code.

I am working on updating my Flac Encoder based on some very kind input from John Gateley.  It will be a week or two (or so) before I can get it done and tested and released.  In the mean time, only versions before the change (11.0.210 and earlier?) will work with my encoder.  You could still use the external encoder if you would like to use more recent beta versions.

So I updated the library transcoder on the server and set it to 96Kbs.  It appears to have no effect....
I know this used to be on the client side, I guess that changed?

Am I doing something wrong?

Are you using Library Server? The option for transcoding must be set on the CLIENT side, not the server side.

I am using the library server.  I used to have this set and now this area changed. 
Where do I set this on the client?  When connected to a server the transcoding options are disabled in the options dialog...

It is in general MC options.  Options > Library > Library Server Settings:

So I need to go back to my local database so that option becomes enabled.  Change the value and then connect to the server again and it should work?

Perhaps that drop down should always be enabled like it used to be.

Sorry Alex, looks like it was an issue with the skin I was using.  It did not show the checkbox so all I saw was a disabled listbox!!

Not to say your needs aren't important..... but....

1.  Usage of FLAC and MPC with MC is extremely small.   My guess is that it's in the 1% area.  Among Interact users, maybe it's more like 2%.

2.  The plug-ins are third party products so I have no idea what will happen to them.

3.  Gateley's comment above meant that the SDK was available.  He assumed the third party developers might take advantage of it.

4.  MC11 has not been released.  Your advice to remove them may be good once it has.

The FLAC encoder is a new third party plug-in, but I had the impression that MPC was one of the supported file types in MC10. I guess I was wrong.

This is not a biggie for me if MPC import, playback, tagging and conversions to other formats will continue to work. I have over 1000 MPC files (about 4 % of my audio library), but I don't usually convert to MPC.

As a workaround mppenc.exe can be used with the External Encoder option. For example, this is the "Parameters" string for Insane quality: --quality 7 %IN %OUT.

The users are not interested about who originally programmed the plug-in years ago. MPC encoding worked in MC9, MC10 and several months in MC11. Support for various file formats has been one of the strengths of MC. More formats would be better than less.

I would like to think that Matt could easily program an MPC encoder plug-in from scratch if it's not possible to fix the current plug-in by JRiver. After all it is just a link between the encoder and MC. Besides, APE v.2 tags are used in MPC format so that part should be familiar.
