Media Center 11.0.223 Beta Available
« on: March 24, 2005, 11:42:18 am »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your bug reports, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't fully support it.  If you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

For a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110223.exe

Please post bugs you're sure about here.  Anything else and especially anything that requires an answer should be posted in a new thread with a subject like "MC11 problem with ..." or "MC11 question about ....".    Feature requests should be postponed until we've finished 11.0.  Thanks.  -- JimH

7. Fixed: Track info pages would flicker when sizing or bar hiding / showing.

This is now fixed. At first Playing Now was blank so I had to change from Track Info to a Visualization and then back in order to get the Track Info to appear.

The only difference between 222 and 223 was a change that made image downloads to PSP possible.

I have the same problem JoeDDS (and many others) have already reported: All zones come out on outputs 1 & 2, regardless of the fact that I have mapped them correctly.  I have tested with two different sound cards with same results for both.  This used to work fine with MC10 and my ASIO-based Delta 1010.  Unfortunately my Delta 1010 broke, so I cannot test MC11 with it.  Neither of the new cards support ASIO, so I am using DirectSound.  If I play both zones 1 & 2, then the mixed sound from both zones comes out from outputs 1 & 2.

I use the mini-me No Frills and now all the buttons on it are gone. If I hover over a button, it does like a Mouseover and a shadow of the button appears. Moving off makes the button blank again.

We specify the proper channel mask in the dwChannelMask parameter of the WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE object that gets passed to DirectSound.

Windows (or the driver) sometimes ignores this for 2 channel audio.  This is a Windows / driver bug, and we're not currently aware of a workaround.

The tooltip wording for the Mini View toolbar icon (MEGA view skin) still says "Mini View (Escape)".  The shortcut for Mini View is Ctrl+2 (not Escape).

"11.0.221 (3/23/05) 7. Fixed: Track info pages would flicker when sizing or bar hiding / showing." This is now fixed.

Also, view changes in Action Window made the main display flicker. It's OK now.

*CUE FILE ISSUES*

- MC complains it can't tag CUE tracks when update tags on file changes is ticked. It should update the CUE files (text) directly.

- If an album with imported+analysed CUE tracks is moved (within MC) after import MC loses the address of those imported CUE tracks. Think about this, its lost the cue traks, a fix of broken links removes these items.. A move is a basic operation, MC should not be droping the ball on this.

Rename files from properties is converting \ to _ in the directories rule instead of making a new directory.

Example:

Directories rule:
[Artist]\[Album]

Properties:
Artist: Beatles
Album: Revolver
Song: somesong

Result:
c:\mp3\Beatles_Revolver\somesong.mp3

Expected Result:
c:\mp3\Beatles\Revolver\somesong.mp3

Issues:

1. DVDs without a main menu (e.g. just one title that starts automatically) cause MC to lock up. These same DVDs play without any problem using Power DVD and stand alone DVD players.

2. DVDs don’t show up in the media library. They show up and can be played from Drives and Devices, but can’t be imported. For example I can playthe VTS_01_1 file from drives and devices and even change the “Name” and Genre” fields, but when I select import into library the file doesn’t import. No error, it just doesn’t show up in the Media Library section of the tree.

3. Can’t play a DVD from a network share. The same DVD plays fine from a local hard drive.

4. There is no ability to access common DVD commands (e.g. menu, change audio track, subtitles, etc.) by keypresses (or any other means that would allow a remote control to be used to while playing a DVD).  Without this, DVDs are not playable (for any practical purposes) in Theaterview.

5. DVD playback automatically resumes at last location. Although this is an improvement over putting up a normal dialog box to ask, this is problematic behavior for two reasons: (i) in Theaterview there still appears to be no way to easily get to the DVD main menu using a remote (see #3), and (ii) is selecting from a library of ripped DVDs (which is problematic now, see #1 and #2) there should be a way to have the default behavior be to play from the start. Preferably after selecting the file in Theaterview, a user could be presented with Theaterview style popup menu (e.g., much like the choice to open, play, add, select after selecting a music album) allowing the choice to start from the beginning or the last location.

6. The removable field is not filled in when items are imported

7. Bitrate field for all MPEG video files is shown as some large number that bears no correspondence to the actual bitrate.

8. When moving photos to another location within “Drives and Devices” the photos are moved, but often the view of the folder the files were moved from is not updated properly (e.g. some of the moved files are still shown, but with an X through the thumbnail showing that the underlying file is no longer present). This occurs when moving files between network shares (where I keep my photos). I think all that should be necessary to fix this problem would be doing a refresh when the move is complete.

Very minor bug with Playing Now/right-click/import file into library
While playing, MP3 file does not import immediately after rename from properties.

Steps:
-Drag and drop new mp3's from explorer into playing now. (songs not in library)
-Play one of the new songs in playing now.
-Right-click/rename file from properties while playing. (renames ok)
-While still playing. Right-click same file/import file into library. (import fails with no error msg)

Works when not playing. Works when not renamed while playing.
Use case: Reviewing and organizing free/legal mp3's from various downloads. Like it, rename from properties to move into MP3 library directories and then import into MC library.
Workaround: Import first, then rename.

Not sure which release this started going wrong in, but copying cover art and then pasting using Paste from Clipboard (Image or URL ) doesn't work.  Whilst the screen footer shows updating tags, the mouse over shows the cover art.  But when the Done Saving Changes message appears, the cover art is gone.

Cancelling Rip session in Secure mode, brings up rip report, but after OK'ing this dialog box the program will crash (reproduceable). New in this release.

Also, I have seen on several occasions in different releases (11.0.201-223) when starting program an error message saying file assocciation table is corrupted and that this is a serious error and that I need to re-install the lastest version of the program. It then reverts back to windows but can be started again without any problems. (seen on two different hardware setup's (PC's). It looks like this happens on occasions were I'm quick to start manouvering from the start page to media library...

Continuing discussion on multi-zoning a single sound card with MC11.    I have tried mapping one zonel via ASIO (the MAYA EX5 USB supports this) and the other via Directsound.  Still no success in separating the 2 zones. Is there a workaround for a laptop that must use USB cards (ie. Audiotrak does not suggest using a hub with their USB sound card, so I am limited to one card).

Rename files from properties is converting \ to _ in the directories rule instead of making a new directory.

Example:

This also occurs when ripping new discs - As I tell MC to save in [Artist]\[Album], but it saves like described above.

BUG 1: Complete Album calculated field does not work for multiple album sets.

I have many of these - one example:  Jimmy Buffett - Meet Me in Margaritaville

This is a 2 disk set, fully tagged, both disks with a complete list of track numbers, the Disk number field used to differentiate the 2 disks.  However, Complete Album shows up as false unless I force the 2 disks to have different album names.

This will fail for most any box set etc, and screws up any query/viewscheme that is looking for complete albums.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BUG 2: I attempted to burn a live show comprised of 12 flac files. (I know...)  These files played correctly when I listened to them on my machine.   The burn appeared to go fine.  However, when I went to play the burned disk, it had burned only the first 10 seconds of each track.

I know flac is not fully supported - HOWEVER if attempting to burn will create coasters like this, shouldn't you prevent/notify the user if unsupported flac files are added to a burn queue?  Otherwise you confuse your users......

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUG 3: When ripping albums, MC is leaving a rip log in the album folder each time.  I do not save it explicitly.  It is named the same as the last track of the album.
I perform a secure rip, click on the close button, and then if I look in the album folder it is there.

In Explorer, right click on some folders, choose Media Center/Import.....brings up MC, but does not import....shell integration broken?

Code: [Select]

I noticed this as well. Too many folders and it fails with no error indication. Reduce the number of folders and it works.

Testing yesterday seemed to indicated a sensitivity to the total combined length of folder path names.

The FLAC plugin does not properly report the file length in blocks.

The only way for us to fix this would be to disable third party plugins.

When re-importing files, MC may fail to update properties from tags. For example, song name is blank when it exists in the MP3 tag. Invoking "Update Library From Tags" fixes the tags. Deleting and re-importing fixed files works fine. Only "Update Library From Tags" restores the blank fields. Deleting and re-importing files with blank fields does not help.

I've notice the FLAC problem too.  As far as I can tell, any operation that transcodes flac to whatever is broken now.
