OK, I'm in Paris.  I'm sorry.  I wanted to go.  The ticket wasn't impossibly expensive.  I went.  I'll be back home in a week.  I hope the goldfish live.

The good news, the _great_ news is, that I met Christian, who I've always known as cmagic.

He's a hardware engineer, working on some deep parallel computing project I don't understand, but he also plays the accordion.  I understand that because I tried for years to play the concertina.  I never got past "Mary Had a Little Lamb".  He can play all the French favorites.  His mother made him practice.

We met at Café Luxembourg, outside the Luxembourg Garden, on Blvd. St. Michel, not too far from the Sorbonne.  The Seine curves around the place, so we had a nice discussion about which direction it was.  Christian pointed behind me.  I pointed behind him.  The woman beside us pointed another direction.  When we pulled out the map, we were all right.

After the first beer, we waited around 10 minutes and then when nobody came, we moved around the corner to the Café Rostand, where we found beer again.

Christian signed my backup copy of "Round Ireland with a Fridge" and it is now almost on its way to Zevele.

It could arrive in Israel on the same day as the first copy, I suppose.

If Zevele and Christian could be in Minneapolis in a week or so, they could be lucky enough to have a glass of champagne with the Media Jukebox team, for whom Christian, aka cmagic, has kindly provided two bottles of the best French Champagne.

Thanks very much, Christian.  We are deeply grateful.

Je vous remercie, Christian.  Nous sommes tres reconnaissants.

Quick Hi Folks (from Britanny).

Salut Michel, Je viens de Grenoble aussi !  :) (en fait de Bourgoin Jallieu !)

I came to Paris only five years ago from Grenoble to pursue my research on the best way
to spend the time that's ahead of me !!

Glad to know that you're coming to Paris next monday, I'll be back monday night.
I'm going to Grenoble sometimes near the end of october, will tell you more...

Jonatan,  yes 1664 is good but the other one (Grimbergen) is not bad !
Champagne was meant for the release of 1..6 (that I missed !) 7 and 8 :)
For 9 we'll think about something else.

Ok, les gars, I must go, I'm stealing somebody's internet time !

The book had a nice day today.  I gave it a ride around Paris.

(The links will work when John Gateley gets home tonight from playing pool and reads his email.)

I took the book to the Folies Bergere:

After that, I took the book along the Seine and I ran into a friend and her mother from Amsterdam.  No kidding.  I'll tell the rest of what happened tomorrow.  Let's just say we had a couple of drinks and the book decided to go home with them instead of me.

Ooops... I wasn't playing pool that night, I was looking for moose. I didn't find any, but I'm back now, and the pictures will be up in the morning.

Pool?  When you were over here, you didn't mention you played pool.  I used to cruise up to Minneapolis and play for serious dough at Moby Dick's on Hennepin.  Had to push the prostitutes and dealers out of the way to get in, but that's where the games were.  I'm out of practice now--almost 10 years since I played leagues, and over 20 since I've shot city tournaments--but I still enjoy a game now and then.

It's the problems we had with the board this morning.
I'm pretty sure we lost all posts/replies made since 3AM sunday morning (about 36 hours ago) in the Media Jukebox board.  The other boards (version 9, development, etc) may not have lost as much.

Your Mr. Ed post and JimH's book post are gone, but  you can post them again.

Sorry,

j

The book was seized by two unidentified females in the Cafe Deux Magots on Blvd. St Germaine at approximately 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 13.

They claimed they would set it free in Amsterdam, but Dolly said something about taking it to South Africa on her next diamond smuggling trip.

Both stated that they have a higher regard for the Irish, Israelis, and refrigerators in general as a result of this chance meeting.

Hey John -

Nay, that's OK.  Like Matt says, don't want to sweat the petty.  (Haven't heard much from him lately; maybe he's too busy petting the sweaty?)  Anyway, I just got a kick out of Mr. Ed surfing.

Yes, billiards.  8-ball and 9-ball are very popular here in the states.  Most leagues around here are 8-ball leagues.  When I shot city tournaments, they were straight pool to 150.  Very challenging.  I've shot a few games of true snooker, on a real snooker table at a place in Milwaukee.  The snooker tables are much taller and much larger than our pool tables.  I enjoyed snooker, but I like 8-ball better.  Just like degF.   ;)

Now I'm bummed. You (Scronch) play straight pool? I really missed a chance.
It's my favorite game, and while I'm mediocre, my mediocrity is best at straight pool.

Zevele: I also like snooker, but play it rarely. We have "american snooker" tables here that are 5 foot by 10 foot, and occasionally you'll find a british ocean table (6 foot by 12 foot) but they are mostly used for a game called "golf".  Billiards (3 cushion or straight) is played very rarely, but you can still find a table or two around.  3 Cushion is an  incredible game.

In france we call it 'billiard americain'-no need for translation-
They are small and the  balls have a number of it.You can find them in some pubs and bars

I played the snooker. The big one ,2 white one red.I really liked it and played often...but at my best i was no more than a fair average player.
In france there is 'billardsacademie'=an HUDGE  room with  10,15 or 20 billards.A light on each billard, the room war because they heat the snookers,a lot of smoke.
Well ,really like you see in a movie.
And no mess,no noise, just the sound of the balls and some conversations at low level.

Only to entrance the room give you a great sensation.

Sometimes a billiard table make a break and look at your game, giving you tips, teaching you some 'coup'.
You just have to buy them a drink.
Some people play money,BIG MONEY.Was more or less $100 the unit.
