Playlists lost
« on: April 16, 2005, 11:19:44 pm »

I accidently clicked on library - default and lost all my playlists and associated files
MJ didn't pick them up from the default file (playlistx.jmd) that was sitting in the correct directory. I had to create a zip file and import the library. It still didn't have the files that were meant to be in the playlists.

Before you throw any more stones....

If you'll explain more, maybe you can get your playlists back.

Version of MJ?  Copy system info from MC Help and paste here.

When you say "Clicked on default", does this mean you were using a different library before you did that?  If so, your playlists are in that library.

if i remember this correctly and i believe this problem is still in MC11 (i could be wrong).

if you load files into default and create play lists

then decide to create another library (lets say jazz)

everything in default will be lost when you change back.

not sure if this is the same as what he is talking about, but it comes close.

I don't think so.  I change libraries all the time without losing playlists.  Just tested again and no problem.

The only way I can imagine that there _could_ be a problem is if you created a second library in the _same_ location as the default and cleared your playlists there, then switched back.  I can see that causing problems, but that one is a user error.  I'm not even sure it's possible.

that may be the case i was thinking happened to me.

when MC11 asks for a path and file name, i am always not sure were to put it. I would prefer that MC used the Library name and just save it in the same dir with maybe a new folder or something.

someting so i don't need to think

There was no other library, I have never created a library. When I clicked on default, the playlists I had when I started reappeared and the new playlists created during the last 3 months were gone for ever.

What I did do was to make a backup of the critical files before re-installing windows and copy them to the new installation of MJ. Seemed like a sensible thing to do.

I was angry because no matter how dumb the user, that kind of catastrophe shouldn't happen and there is no documentation about those (jmd)  files I could find . I managed to get the playlists back using the zip file method but had to fill them with files again.
