This skin, Aruba, is in tonight's build (244).  It's not finished yet, but comments are welcome.

I like the colors a lot.  I use the ollive scheme in XP and it matches very well.  I like the use of black for the title bars and headings, but I'm not sure about the action window being solid black; perhaps a shade of charcoal ?

Any chance of someone doing a track info display with a similar look?

P.S.  I liked the way captions were displayed in MC10 rather than how they're now done in MC11.  Especially in image or slide show display.  Any chance of that being optional ?

Thanks very much for the excellent work.

Bernie...

Hi,

installed the latest version and had a short look at the new skin.

It is sooooo cool  8)  8)  8)

One thing i've noticed: the vertical splitter between the tree and the display/content pane could be more visible.
But maybe that's just my opinion, don't know.  ;)

BTW, are there any plans to provide us with a complete ARUBA-Set (with mini-view, theater-view, ...)?

The new Skin sees class from only the texts still the Skin having to be adapted.  Some does not write the text is readable because black on black in title-carries out.  And the tree opinion is not so beautiful.

I am running the new Aruba skin with negative effect turned on and it looks darn good. Kind of a cross between blue steel and thunderstorm but much sharper in the color department.

Nice one.

I came up with a plan for a skin, but it would only work if the text could be altered. When everything's translatable it could be done. Its nothing like any skin I've seen so far.

Some thoughts :

- There is no way to quickly mask/unmask split views, the small arrows have disapeared in this skin!

- Look at the transition between the tree and the library view : Isn't it too hard? There is no transition at all. same thing for the transition between the top part of the skin and the library view.

- (IMO) due to the high contrast, black elements (Action window, headers and sliders) draw way too much attention.

- To be honnest, I really don't like the color. It's not a comon one and I'd prefer a kind of blue...

This mockup will better illustrate the changes I would make :

Looking good, the blue would also match the name better, lol

The main color isn't bad, but the Black just doesn't go with it....
This is no were in the same league as the oter Default skins for MC.

Following imjustagamer's suggestion, I tried to see what this skin would like without the so rude black color :

Way better IMO... ::)

The AW shouldn't be white though.... Maybe the lighter color (The one that highlites "Find the Crow")

But then again, I aint no Picaso!!

The olive is a warm and subdued color, an autumn color in color analysis speak. I'd replace black with brown, which is the warm equivalent of black, and change white for cream to start with: there are other options that might work better, but cream would be a good starting point.

Think this would go together much better. Theres also a link IIRC on my colour guide on
http://tabby.i8.com/
to one of the color pickers that suggests a whole set of colors to go with any one color you give it. Very helpful when you want colors that work together harmoniously.

Im glad Aruba is not blue. And not metal. Masses of blue and metal around already.

If you wanted to get fancy you could have a little wheelknob that selected from a list of color schemes with the skin. I can just imagine peaches and cream... different.

Please leave it the way it is.  Infact I am now going to take the skin folder and save it.

Check out this skin in 'negatvie' form.  It's uber cool!!!:o

Don't worry, these are just suggestions :)
I've checked and you're right the skin is good in negative mode.
But the real question is : do you really prefer it the way it actually is?

The negative version is not what users will see when they test MC11. They won't think "I don't like it but I guess a negative version would be cool! Oh yeah Tools/Skins/Skin Effects !"

And by the way, just for your pleasure : the negatived version of one of my mockups :
http://david.maestric.com/MCStuffs/mc11aruba2neg.jpg

(IMO not as good as the negatived current version, but still good ;))

I like the skin with the white as the background in the action box. But a question. This skin plus some others have the volume buttons work the same way but the Thunderstorm skin has a nice Volume Options button that allows more functionality. I prefer this button instead.

I like the skin the way it is (not in negative form) but I can not easily see the white text in some action buttons. For example, when burning a CD, the white text on the "Burn" button is almost impossible to see. Maybe this is just the LCD on my laptop. But, I love the soft, mellow colors.

Interesting, is your 'mock up' a working version or just a photoshop edit since your icons are also in negative and mine are not?

It's just a simple photoshop edit.
You can bet I'll make the modifications (for me - and I will share it if it's possible), but I hope this skin will not go unmodified with the final release of MC.

I'm wondering if it's ok to make modifications to the skin and share the result? If so I can open a new thread to discuss possible improvements...

Yes, if you mean a skin for MC.
