MC11 Runtime error
« on: May 19, 2005, 12:31:05 pm »

I have just installed v.271 on a machine with a fresh install (no MC installed before), and when I click on handheld, I get the following...

Runtime Error!

Program C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Media Center.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the applicaiton's support team for more information.

I was so hoping to finally get my iPod synched with my home database.  Please let me know if you need/want more info.

I have restarted MC, and got the same thing.  I'll reboot right now.

Try re-installing after you reboot if the reboot doesn't fix it.

I rebooted and reinstalled.

I rebooted, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled.

Still giving the same error.

Here are my system stats...

Any third party plug-ins?  Anything else unusual?

the only thing other than the standard install is I've added the audible.com store.  Although i did not reinstall it after the uninstall of MC, so I'm not sure if it's still there right now.

Other than that.  I just opened up my laptop, which was completely wiped clean before I left, and installed MC for the first time (as far as this machine knows).

No plug ins.

I've downloaded the newest and will install it soon.  I have to wait for the update tags process to finish.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I've rebooted again.

Updated windows.

Installed v.172 (whatever is newest).

Rebooted.

Same deal.  Can't initialize my iPod.

Anything else I can provide to get this fixed up?

At this point, it's possible, maybe likely that the problem is specific to the PC.  You could try uninstalling and removing the registry entries, then re-installing, but that's about all I can imagine it could be.  Check the "Weird and Wonderful" thread in the FAQ for other odd problems.

I would mind far less doing that if I didn't have to resetup all of the options whenever I reinstall MC.

Can we maybe add those settings to the library backup in v12?  Please.

Do I need to remove the libraries as well?

Where do I need to be looking for the registry settings for the COMPLETE uninstall?

Still doing it on another new install.  I bought a new laptop and it's still giving the same error on this machine.

Crayola Boy,

Do you have the problem now or is it fixed?

I wiped it with MC, and it came back.

I wiped it with Apple, and it seems to be working now.

Thanks Steve for your help.

I had the same problem again, but I think I figured it out. If you try to sync when the iPod has reset itself (after 2-3 days), that's when I get the error. All I do is start to play a song, then plug the iPod in and everything works fine. I've tryed this three times and got the same results every time.

Cool.  I'll have to make a mental note of that.

by the way, why does the iPod reset itself like that?

To save battery time. After 3 days of no music, it gets tired of waiting for our sorry asses, so it goes to sleep. I swear the thing is alive.

I've found the answer. I waited a few days so my iPod could shut down on its own, then plugged it in for a sync. Sure enough, I got the error. Then I unplugged the iPod and played a song for a few seconds, then plugged it back in. I still got the error. So I unplugged it again and played a song all the way through so the playcount would change. I was able to plug it back in and sync it after that.

Hope this helps everybody.
