Bug or feature?

I found this on 3.69 and upgraded to see if it was fixed.  Still exists in 384..[edit: had to clean up the 'Anglais]

IN any event.  What I have is a library that is no longer valid.  It needs to be updated.  the songs it thinks are 128kbps are actually now typically 112kbps.  When I click on them, MJ just skips down to the next song.  MJ even crashed once.

You can check this on my current server. 68.42.200.36:23

The error will likely occur till I update the DB tonight.  about 6-7 hours from now.

this server is only 128kbps upstream so its prone to not letting the data flow :(

now you know why I changed down to 112kbps..

23 was the only port comcast let through.  go figure.

I should add that you will see this error on for instance "Jill Scott", her whole album does this because I rerecorded it.

To anyone that has tried it......

I haven't burnt a data CD thru MJ in a long time. Does a 8.3 format filename still have to be present? I have short filename generation turned off in W2k.

What I really meant was...If short filenames are req'd, will it create them on the fly like Easy CD Creator and others?

The "History" list keeps getting shorter for MJ8 releases.  Is that becuase the items are more challenging to fix, or due to a re-allocation of resource?  Or, perhaps you are running out of MJ8 squawks?

This turned out to not be true.  Their is just something wrong with all the mp3 files of that album.  the 128kbps files are hosed.  Have no idea why.  They just ripped bad I guess.  This happens from time to time.  I found the 112kbps versions were not imported.  So now I have both in the library. the 112kbps play fine, the 128kbps do not play at all.  the file sizes look good and the tags seem to work but the files refuse to play.  Strange.

Sorry to say they're still required unless you're using the generic driver. However, we will soon have a generic driver (in version 9) that won't have this limitation and will burn without the 2 second gaps.

Just curious, why do you have the short filename creation turned off? Is there an advantage to this?

John,

>>Just curious, why do you have the short filename creation turned off? Is there an advantage to this?

For one thing, I still use File Manager (from NT4) in W2k. Much cleaner looking (when all file properties are displayed) without the short filenames. I think there is a speed advantage (but I haven't tested this) in not having 2 filenames. Most of all, short filenames are not necessary for any programs I use (well... except for the soon to be fixed problem w/ MJ).

Since I've loaded down the current release, my application MJB screen comes up mostly black and I have nothing to click on.  Is there a file to save, delete everything and start from the beginning??  What should I look for to fix this problem

Hi Nikolay -

I noticed that 8.0.385 is already on the main download page.  Does that mean it's a really stable version?  I need to upgrade a couple of PC's.  Scronch

Hi Scronch,
If it's on the downloads page, it always means we think it's the best we have.  Should be stable.

Thanks Nikolay for the update,
I found two bugs:
1.  The Previous build and the current continue an irritating bug. If the internet radio stream gets "heek-ups" I may hear the last audio segment stuck in repeat. You know like when you play a scratched cd. after half a min it goes back to streaming well. Pleas iron it out.

2. My PC locked when I tried to burn a new CDRW X10.

I have MJ set to output to Wave Mapper (as I always have).  In one of the most recent .38x betas, something is now causing other music applications to not work if MJ has begun playback.

For instance, I used to be able to run MJ and then play Half-Life at the same time.  I would hear the music from MJ and the sounds from HL.  Now, HL is silent if MJ is playing (or has played).  The same thing happens with MixMeister.

This is new behavior, and I have made no system changes at all, other than updating MJ betas.
