MC11 crashing
« on: June 09, 2005, 09:48:17 am »

The last few days I've been getting constant crashes from Media Center, when I try and sync my ipod, and now that I've tried listening for more than just a few minutes just playing music as well.  I've tried updating to last nights builds.  I'm also seeing that after closing Media Center, it still shows running in Task Manager.  I've saved the file that winxp creates during an app crash and uploaded it so that someone could take a look.

One thing I have done that I thought may affect it was I installed the preview of Quicktime 7, but I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and QT6 last night, and this morning it hasn't touched any of the iTMS files when it crashed 3 times in 5 minutes.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Please uninstall, reboot, then install the latest MC 11.  Let us know if the problem persists.

Well scratch the part about not touching the iTms files, there were a couple that snuck in to the smart list I was using.  I'm uninstalling both itunes, QT and MC, and will reinstall and try again.

Well, I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled.  Quickly switching through files I was still seeing the crash when it switched between mp3 and m4p.  I removed a couple plugins (as the playing now had expired and was annoying me) and switched songs for a bit again without crashes.  But I've got to get ready for work.  I'll have to test it more tonight.  If it does crash, is there some information I can present to make troubleshooting easier?

M4P files are played with the QuickTime engine.  You may want to contact them if you're seeing crashes only with that file type after updating QT.

Just wanted to report in that all is well.  The strange part was that if I selected a m4p file directly, it would play fine, but if it switched from an mp3 to m4p whether on its own or by hitting next track it crashed.

Oh well, its working fine now... sorry for the disruption.
