MC11 and TivoBack (s/w 7.2)
« on: August 23, 2005, 09:51:40 pm »

Does anybody at JRiver have a Tivo with 7.2 software, whereby we might hope to have MC11 be able to use the TivoBack capability to send video to the Tivo ?
The Tivo Desktop software appears to be limited to a 'big bucket' approach to offline storage - MC11 would be really compelling if it allowed a directory structure to access mpeg-2 and .tivo files on a PC.  Also MC already successfully access media across network storage (data on a different server to MC) - Tivo Desktop does not do this.

Here's hoping you get a chance to build on the great Photo and Music support you already have ...

My TiVo is still at 7.1. Is 7.2 an automatic upgrade?

It was an "open beta" signup, http://research.tivo.com/72priority/

I put my vote in for an MC Tivo Library Server that looks through the library and puts compatible file types available for TiVo up for PCtoTiVo transfers.

Here's the spec on file parameters:

To clarify, it is now rolling and the priority link provided is for the general rollout not the now complete open beta.

Personally I'd love to see MC transcode if the codec are available and the server is up to it - but just publishing what is available would be cool too.  I'm still in search of that 'one stop shop' media server and MC11 remains the closest!

If you haven't got 7.2 yet you can bump your place in the queue up...

I have 7.2 but am still on MC10.

Is MC11 supposed to support video back to Tivo?

I agree that this would be an excellent addition to MC11.  With the version 2.2 of the Tivo Desktop and version 7.2 on my series 2 tivo I can copy the video off of my Tivo to watch on my PC, delete them from the Tivo, then copy them back if I want to watch them on my TV again.  But who wants to do this with Tivo Desktop when MC would be so much better?
