Nano works great with MC
« on: September 09, 2005, 08:47:29 am »

Just picked up an ipod Nano yesterday and kept my fingers crossed that it would work seamlessly... and glad to report that it does.  I'm currently using version 11.0312.  Had a slight problem with playlist tracks not showing up with initial sync.  But after I did an "initialize", it's been working without a hitch.

There's a new feature where I can view the lyrics on the Nano if I press select 3 times in the Now Playing screen.  Unfortunately, when I sync with MC the lyrics are not showing up. The lyrics are not showing up either when I sync with iTunes ver 5.  I can see the lyrics in the tags in both iTunes & MC, just not the Nano.  However, if I delete and retype the lyrics in iTunes, and sync via iTunes, I can see the lyrics on the Nano.   If I delete and retype the lyrics in MC, I still cannot see the lyrics in Nano. Don't know if it makes any difference or not but I'm using Spartasoft's lyric finder plugin.

Would be great if you guys can implement this feature. Thanks

Not that it's really needed, but I'll confirm the Nano is happy with MC. I never cared before, but now that I have an iPod, I'd really (READDY) like to see the cover art working. Any, while you at it, the lyrics functionality that warner mentioned would be really appreciated too.

Of course, I'm willing to beta (alpha?) test either of these too. :-)

We will look at adding the lyric support you mention in the future.

Thanks,

I stumbled on a nice review of the Nano: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/hardware/nano.ars/1

The reviewers also found out what is needed to kill it.   ;D

Hi,

Glad to hear iPod nano works with MC

So much so that I've rushed out and pirchased one.

As a complete novice to the iPod/MC combination can anybody point me to a set of start from scratch instructions ?

Is there anything that I have to do in iTunes i.e. format etc. or can I do it all in MC ? If I have to start with iTunes at what stage can I switch over to MC ?

Thanks for any assistance

Just to answer my own question.

iPod nano worked straight out of the box with MC.

Just charged it up and plugged it in, transferred a few playlists, tracks, playlists and all were accessable in the ipod.

no need to install iTunes at all   8)

I've noticed with my Nano that the playcount and last played date info is synced incorrectly. Very large values, sometimes very large negative values are getting synced.

Any chance of a fix for this anytime soon?

If you need more details I'd be happy to provide them.

This is happening with other iPods, also, if they were updated to the latest firmware. Supposedly it has been fixed "in a future release" (that's what Steve said several weeks ago), but that release has not yet been released. I would guess that this fix will fix the issue for the Nano as well.

Steve,

From some other thread, I think I got the impression that these iPod issues are slated to be released in 11.1. Is that roughtly accurate? Or might they be coming in 11.0.4?

(Just trying to set my patience meter appropriately <g>).

Thanks.

Is it still planned to have lyric sync support for the iPod Nano/5G with the final release of 11.1?  This would be most helpful so I don't have to rely on iTunes for that.  I just tried again with 11.1.100 and it does not seem to be implemented yet.

Thanks,
Gack
