2 Tivos w/MC10 - multiple streaming?
« on: September 11, 2005, 10:33:04 am »

I know that I can stream 2 different streams from my server to my two different tivos, but how do I stream the exact same music at the same time - i.e. I want to be able to play the same music in both places so that I get music throughout the house.

Running XP pro on the server.

I know that shoutcast can be used to stream whatever is playing, but then I have to use the remote console to change music vs. just using the tivo remotes.

Here's the perfect solution:

1. One tivo selects music from the MC server
2. Either tivo (or just one) is able to change the music

you can't, it doesn't work that way.  the tivo units request things independently from the mc server.

Is there something like shoutcast that is a plug in for media center that would allow me to broadcast on my home network?  With that I could just create a URL for Tivo to point to (i.e. http://192.168.1.105:80).

I can do it with shoutcast but I'd rather not load winamp if I don't have to.

Not that I know of...

Are you saying you can point two Tivos to one Shoutcast?  How do you do that with Tivo?

If your shoutcast is running on your server you basically create an "internet URL" for your server.  The M3U file would be:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:,Shoutcast from Server
http://192.168.1.101:8080

Shoutcast is broadcasting a stream on port 8080

Then, if you told each TiVo to play the M3U file it would be just like listening to an internet radio broadcast, except that you are listening to the server and whatever is playing through the soundcard.  The downside is that you lose control of changing the music from the TiVo.

Cool approach -- great for a party to broadcast to multiple rooms.  I'll have to try it... have you actually done this?

Yes, I used to do this back when Liquid London was still broadcasting over the web.

Haven't done it lately since I reformatted my server.
