File Associations
« on: September 28, 2005, 01:43:24 pm »

Problem with File Associations and Microsoft vs MC11
1. All selected audio file types display the  MC Icon
2. All selected file types work correctly from within MC11
3. All selected file types work properly from within other programs,
4. EXCEPT when selecting a file to play from within a microsoft program.
5. Select "My Computer",
6. Find a  "file to play" and click on the song
7. Instead of the file bringing up MC11 and playing the song,
the  "OPEN WITH" window is now displayed asking me to
"Choose the program you want to use to open this file"
8. MS Media Player is always the player shown highlited,
unless I have restricted access to the MS MediaPlayer player
If MS MediaPlayer has been restricted, anything  other than MC11 is selected.
MC11  IS shown in the recommended box, but nevert selected.

I have tried everyway to reset File Associations and then set them again.
I have set up Media Scheduler to help, no effect..

As I originally said, the file associations select correctly within all programs,
EXCEPT when accessing through My Computer, START link, or anything to do with the desktop. I did a "SEARCH" for a song. When found I clicked on it and it brought up the "OPEN WITH" window.

So it seems like anything to do with playing a song selected from a  Microsoft program, will not use MC11...??

I hope I have given enough description of the problem.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Anne :'(

Try setting file associations in WMP.  Turn everything off.

Thanks for the suggestion..

Unfortunately, I have already done what you suggested and it did not help.

Yes, That option also requires that media scheduler is running.

Yes It will  "take back" and restore an association that an application
has hijacked.

I have done all this.... no help.

Remember, ALL other applications work with the files properly !!!

ALL other programs function with the correct associations for the
Media Center files.. EXCEPT  the Desktop and other function that
are embedded into the operating system. Like trying to play a song by accessing it through "My Computer".
