Importing Album Art from Windows Media Player
« on: October 15, 2005, 01:06:48 pm »

I have been using Windows Media Player for years and I am now interested in switching to JRiver.

I have about 3000 songs all with album art in WMP.

How do I import the album art into MC?

I have saved all the files on my system based on Genre.  When I go into the folder, it shows the album art name as "AlbumArt_{D230E40D-AB03-4516-9765-4CC41346E0E1}_Large.jpg"

Is MC capable of importing this type of file and keeping it associated with the correct file?

Thanks

It should happen automatically if these are the only images in the folder containing the music for that album. (or genre if you're only using genre folders)

After that, you may want to think about letting MC move the art into the tags or a more standard location since a long GUID as a filename isn't too useful to humans or other programs.

So, what do you mean for your directory structure?

Rock
Jazz
R&B

And in each of them you have many selections by different artists and albums?

And for each selection you have a AlbumArt_REALLY_LONG_Large.jpg? So there are a number of that kind of jpg in each directory?

Then, there is little I can see to seperate each jpg to its proper selection.
WMP tracks items based on the GUID and can display the right image from that.
I don't know any other app that is going to use that method.

But, I've only tried 95% of music tools...

If you decide upon using anything other than WMP, you'll be happier changing your directory structure to something like artist/album
Then you can keep album art with each album and never worry about it again.

If you make that change with MC (it can make the change, create directories, move the files, etc) you can also use it to get shiny new cover art for you.

Not painless, but not too difficult either.
