many streaming radio links dont work
« on: November 18, 2005, 09:14:07 pm »

I am using MC 10.  I have not listened to streaming radio very much, but recently start listening more.

I am having a problem where many, most, of the stations listed generate a "Please select file to play"  information box when I click on the speaker icon in the right coloumn  to start playing various stations.

Radio Paradise and many other do this.  Is there a bug or is this normal, or do I need to configure something to make this work properly.  Some station links work properly, but mos do not.

Thanks in advance for you help,
Bob

It is a long standing problem. The problem is that you are tied to the radio station database maintained by JRiver and they do not update it. The users can not modify the list. You also can not add the proper address for Radio Paradise because the JRiver database says it already exists.  I have asked to get this station updated but nothing came of it. Web Media is definitely a weak point in this otherwise fine software. See here for more:

I ignore the web media function and find my stations elsewhere. When I find a good one I'll add it to one of my radio playlists. Thankfully MC allows me to revise the 'tag' info for these stations, making them easy to find, even in the media library.

ditto that :)
I give mine a "web media" tag, then excluded them from MC's media library (right click, edit view shceme, add exclusion to step 4).
Next, I created my own "web media" view scheme, excluding everything else except web media (ignore parent search string)
This works a treat for keeping the radio stations etc. out of smartlist search results, such as "needs audio analysis"
