Cannot connect to YADB
« on: November 25, 2005, 10:43:34 pm »

New here.
Have looked at FAQ, and re-checked my setting etc.

Cannot connect to YADB!

PC System is okay, is if I load up Musicmatch, it connects to their library and reads cd details fine.

Try www.yadb.com, can you get there?

Thanks for reply John

Yes, I can get there - simaple grey blcokm on the screen with text.

No matter what cd I put into the drive, I get the same error message.
Both Windows Media Player and Musicmatch pick up the cd, read their respective databases and pick up the correct info.

Media Centre just resonds with Failure to connect to YADB.
Thanks again for your concern

Since it's working for others, we have to assume that you've got something special going on with your PC.  Firewall, virus checker, spam filter, spyware, antispyware.  There are a lot of possibilities.

Please copy your system info from MC Help and paste it here.

Also, try the page:

http://www.jriver.com/~gateley/yadbtest.html

It's got a single link on it, click that link. You should get back xml data.

I have un-installed and re-installed.
YADB works intermittantly and often MC hangs-up while looking up data.
Pressing cancel during the database lookup seems to have little effect.

How are you connected to the internet? What kind of speeds do you get?

What happens if after a failure, you immediately retry the lookup?
