« on: September 27, 2002, 08:19:11 pm »

Do you live in New Jersey?  That's been a common bug under XP.

Please post your system info.  You can copy it from MJ's Help, System Info.

Was just about to start a new thread on this....

Set up an old machine in the living room to hook up to the stereo. Installed MJ and put in my reg key. Was hooking it up to another machine with Media Server, and it kept cutting out. Thought it was that until I tried to play some files on the machine itself. After a couple of minutes, it just quits. Upgraded IE to v.6, Direct X too, just in case, though it's prob. not related. Any ideas?  ? Other Win2K machine works fine.

Thanks

That's the behavior you would see if a crack was installed.  Try a complete uninstall, reboot reinstall.  Make sure the MJ program folder is gone before reinstalling.

:'(  No good. Uninstalled, did a search on *.mj* and deleted, and scanned through the registry for anything JRiver and deleted. Rebooted, reinstalled. Registration info said not registered, 0 days left in trial period. First time, quit by itself while importing. After that, quits after playing for a minute and a half or so.

For the record, I've not downloaded or used a cracked version of MJ.

Any more suggestions?  ?

Thanks

Ok....I had an old copy of 8.0.248 on backup CD since before I had to install a new HD.   I did a complete uninstall of the new one,  and installed the "old" version which I believe was one of your beta's....

It works fine.

Now a related question:   on the new version I saw where it says "unregistered - 30 days left"  but this "old" version does not say that anywhere.  Is this different since it was a beta?  What happens if I continue using the Beta?  I thought you guys had changed to a registration-code system for Version 8 but this version I have doesn't act like that.  All I see is "upgrade".

Theboss,
That version is old enough that the crack may work.  The message you're getting also would confirm that.

Did you ever purchase?

But if I deleted  (uninstalled, actually) the new one completely doesn't that get rid of any associated files like cracks?   The program files folder where MJ was located in was deleted and a brand new one created for the new install.  I did not save any library files either.

On the version I am running now,  under "help",  the only options related to registering or expiration are "buy",  "restore", and one that is greyed-out:  "back up".

No,  I've been using various "basic" versions of MJ ever since version 6.  My MP3 collection has been stashed away on CDs over the summer while I had this hard drive failure/repair that's why I still have that beta.

Beta or not,  Mj is still an awesome program.

Went back, installed v.336. This time it quit, and it tried to take me to a url :

http://www.musicex.com/cgi-bin/crack/warning.pl?r=1&v=8.0.336

I uninstalled and (I thought) cleaned up all J River stuff-evidently not. Any more suggestions, or do I have to wipe and restart?

Thanks

Did you try installing the current version and purchasing it?  Should work.

Sorry if I wasn't clear at the start - twas purchased, Sat. 8 June. Uninstalled, then reinstalled 373, and used my restore file. Same with 336. Said it worked correctly, but still thought it was 'cracked' and quit once I started it up. Comments from the peanut gallery aside, I'll assume I'm SOL and start from scratch.

Thanks Jim

When i was 17-18 years old, For Two Years I Worked For Planters Peanuts (Ocean City, N.J. Board Walk), I know how to cook every type of nut that comes my way.

Rudy Did you make sure the "Program Files\J River" Folder Was Removed? (when you did the Un-Install)

About the "used my restore file"  Is that a 8 June restore file?  and would that file not work because it was more than two weeks old.  Have you tried getting and using a new restore file?

King> I Worked For Planters Peanuts (Ocean City, N.J. Board Walk)

I knew New Jersey was causing the problem.

Rudy, it's still not clear if you're using an old restore file, or if you went to the MJ site and got a new one.  Have you reviewed http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq.html ?

I realize the restores are limited time only. The restore file I used, I got on the 25th, just last Wednesday. After installing, I get a dialog box saying registration was successful.

After the uninstall, I checked under \Program Files and made sure the JRiver folder was gone. I also went through the registry, and got rid of anything JRiver.

? Thoughts? Haven't reformatted yet...
