My 30 day trial has expired, but I'm registered
« on: December 01, 2005, 01:12:51 pm »

I just tried to open MC, but was informed that my 30 day trial has expired.  I'm a registered user of 11, so this was something of a surprise.

I will use a restore, and am sure all will be fine, but though I'd bring it to the attention of whoever handles this.

Check your system date.

Has the name of the system changed?

Not that I know of.  I haven't updated or installed much of anything in quite a while.

Wait, that's not true.  I did have to install a software for a DSL router, which I think I forced me to change my network name, so I bet that's what happened.  I'm still waiting for the registration email to restore, I'm sure it'll be fine once I restore.  That's why I get 10 every year, huh?

Thanks for your prompt attention Jim.

King, thanks for bringing that to my attention.  I'm not sure how/when that picture got removed, but I'll try to find in and put it back later, when I have more time.  I'm painting right now.

One more thing.  I got me registration code email.  It cost me 1 restore.  i entered it in the webform to get the license and it cost me another restore.  Again, no great big deal, as I still have 5 left, but restoring this way does in fact cost 2 restores.

With the complaints I have seen about this type of thing in the past, I just thought I'd mention it.  Again, I'm fine, still have 5 left.

Having our server e-mail your registration code doesn't use a restore.

It charged me one.  It did the same thing last time I had to use a restore.  If you'd like to check my email is chris at travelcommentary.com.  You'll see I used 2 today, and 2 the last time I restored.

Hi Justin,

I'm showing 1 restore used today, and 1 restore used June 18th, and 1 restore back in May. You didn't use 2 today, and you didn't use 2 last time.

Can you show me where it is telling you that you used 2?

I no longer have the screen showing the first restore, but I can assure you the first one said I had 6 restores left, and the next one said I had 5, here is a cut/paste from the email...

"You have recently restored a licence for Media Center 11. This product has a limit of 10 restores per year, and you now have 5 restores remaining."

If you look at all the history of my account, you should see where I used the 5.  1 a really long time ago, 2 a while back (june 18th?), and 2 today.  If not, I don't know when the others were used.

Let me know if you need any more from me, I'll do what I can.

Again, I'm not asking for anything, just trying to help get the system squared away.

Hi Justin,

Here's your history:

Thu Dec  1 13:53:57 2005
Mon Jul 18 15:06:50 2005
Mon May 23 10:30:03 2005
Mon May 23 10:27:13 2005
Sat Feb 12 16:07:38 2005

This is 5 restores, but the only time you used two in one day was on May 23. That time, they are separated by 3 minutes, which hints that it was two separate actions, not us counting twice...

First, I really appreciate your prompt attention to this situation.  Also, I'm glad that there apparently is NOT a problem with the system.

The 2 on May must have been the other time I remember using 2.  I certianly don't remember restoring 4 times, but seem to have forgotten one.

I must have erroneously assumed that when it told me that I had 6 restores left (the screen shot i don't have) that it had used one, as I thought I had 7, then the email told me I had 5, so I assumed it used 2.  I guess this is just another lesson in not making assumptions.  I must have been simply confused by the first message, and then the change.

I hope this was not too much work for you, as I'm sure you're quite busy with real work.

Thanks.
