Problems installing 11.1.90
« on: December 29, 2005, 02:25:31 pm »

Hi,

I wanted to give a try to the new version but ran into problems when installing. I was using 11.0.296.

Here's what happened:

1.- Downloaded 11.1.90 from the board.
2.- Ran the installer. It found a copy of MC running and asked if I wanted the installer to close it down. Answered "yes".
3.- Once the installation completed, received a message stating that MC could not load the "default" library and asked if I wanted to load a backup. Answered yes, selected the last backup and received a message that the backup load failed.
4.- The installer asked if I wanted to create a new "blank" library (or something to that effect). Answered no. Then the installer notified that a library of a previous version was found and asked if I wanted to load it. Answered yes. The library loaded but was a very old one, probably from an earlier version 10.
5.- At this point, unsuccesfully tried to restore the latest backup and also the previous one (I have a good number of library backups stored).
6.- Installed version 11.0.296 on top of the whole thing. The installation ran OK and my "default" library was presented.
7.- Tried to restore the latest backup (the one that failed with 11.1.90) and restored succesfully.
8.- Everything seems fine with 11-0.296. Lost toolbar cutomization but view schemes, playlists, etc. seem to be OK.

Any advice as to how to proceed to install 11.1 will be very much appreciated.

Try installing the latest 11.0 from the download page and then switching to 11.1.  Back up your library at both stages.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for your reply.

Tried what you suggested but unfortunately the problem still remains. The install informs that could not load the "default" library and trying to load any of the backups is unsuccessful.

After all the tests, I re-installed the latest 11.0 from the downloads page (11.0.316) and everything was OK again. I did the final test to restore some of the backups that 11.1 could not load, and they worked fine with 11.0.316.

Somehow the library is rejected by 11.1 but is accepted by 11.0.

Would you guys want yo take a look at the library? It's a 256.000 mp3s and the backup is circa 50 MB but I'll try to find a way to make it available to you, if you mind it.

Thanks and happy new year to all of you!

Hi, Matt.

Thanks for your interest. I'm gonna put the backup in my ISP server, if I can  ::) so that you can download it from there.

How can I give you the link?? Can I pm or email you with that info?

Thanks again.

Thanks so much David.

This should be fixed in a build of MC 11.1 going up in an hour or so.

And talk about a stress-test --- 270,000 tracks is a new record ;)

Best,
-Matt

(p.s. the calculated view scheme at the root of audio is really hurting performance -- we'll see if we can tune it on our end, but you may be better off using non-calculated fields with such a huge library)

That's great news, Matt!  :)

I'll try that build as soon as possible and will let you know if it imports the database OK.

I'm gonna take a look at that calculated view scheme too and get rid of it since I don't think it's essential.

Thanks again for your help.

My best regards to all of you.

David.
