what is a breadcrumb?
« on: January 06, 2006, 03:37:04 pm »

am I going mad or what?

I've worked in IT for years, and until this evening when I read the thread for 11.1.94, I've never heard it used in an IT sense!

What on earth does it mean???

Definition of: breadcrumb

A description of the trail you took to get where you are. Breadcrumbs are common on Web sites to help you navigate the site. For example, a simple text breadcrumb such as Products->Monitors->Flat Panel shows that you arrived at this page by first clicking Products, then Monitors, and finally Flat Panel.

So the left of the Screen when your in tile view...

Artist---AC/DC Albums --- Flick Of the Swich

That is the breadcrumb

You're now only seeing the Flick of a Switch Album.  Click back on the AC/DC breadcrumb to go backwards one level.  Click on Artists breadcrumb to go back 2 levels.
Might even have the ability to go back as far as Genre, depending on how your viewscheme is configured.

Breadcrumbs or bread crumbs are small particles of dry or very dry bread, which are used for breading foods, topping casseroles, stuffing poultry, thickening stews, and adding inexpensive bulk to meatloaves and similar dishes.

Thanks King. Very informative.

One question though: how do you define the difference between dry and very dry?  ;D

But if it becomes dry, isn't that actually a crouton and not a bread crumb?

I didn't say what idea.

(Naturally, I meant that I think he invented the idea to use a breadcrumb style system in MC.)

crouton

n.
A small crisp piece of toasted or fried bread.

[French croûton, diminutive of croûte, crust, from Old French crouste, from Latin crūsta.]

This is so why MC11 should have an interface for the coffee machine.

Bennyd invented the idea of breadcrumbs in general?

Why not?  Al Gore invented the internet.  Now they're both famous and equally as important to the advancement of humankind.
