Media Center 11.1.99 Release Candidate
« on: January 13, 2006, 04:56:06 pm »

This is a pre-release version of MC 11.1.  It will work with the same MC11 license that 11.0 uses.  Please post only bugs here.  Anything requiring discussion should go in a new thread.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

PRICES for MC11.0 and 11.1 are here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311

The public release version of Media Center 11.0 is available here:
http://www.jrmediacenter.com/download.html (recommended for new users)

This latest build of MC11.1 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter111099.exe

7. Fixed: Search strings containing dashes were matching too many items (example "b-sides").
8. Changed: Photos on the iPod should appear centered.

11.1.97 (01/11/06)

1. Changed: Tuned the display bar hide timing to be less aggressive.
2. Changed: Added a "Restore" button to the full screen toolbar to be more consistent with a regular window header.
3. Changed: Trimmed the height of the library view header bar.
4. Fixed: The averaged album year listed for an album with multiple track years was displaying decimal values.
5. Fixed: List controls weren't redrawing correctly when another list control was scrolled.
6. Changed: Multiple ~d terms now honor all terms instead of ignoring later terms.
7. Fixed: Turning on Access Control would allow removable (and other) entries to appear when not expected.
8. Fixed: In search expressions, escaped parenthesis characters were not working.

14. Fixed: When multiple views are selected (under View->Split View), each view's menu will not affect the other view.
15. Fixed: Ranges (like 80-89) would put the 0 value under (Others), instead of 00-09.
16. Fixed: Single digit ranges (like 0-9) would match too many values when used in a view scheme.

11.1.96 (01/09/06)

1. Fixed: Inaccurate bitrate of m4a files was used during importing.
2. Fixed: Podcast feed retry count was not reset after changing the URL.
3. Fixed: Older iPods could cause a crash when being connected to Media Center.

6. Fixed: Some calculated fields could be overly slow when dealing with CD database files.

13. Changed: MC wouldn't allow the same track to be placed in the burn list multiple times.
14. Fixed: The handheld action bin wouldn't update properly when erasing files from the handheld.
15. Changed: When updating handheld options for sync / manual mode, the action window will update for the current transfer if it's open.
16. Fixed: When pausing a slideshow and then switching images, MC wouldn't maintain the paused state.
17. Fixed: After formatting an iPod from inside of MC, the free space would not get updated.
18. Fixed: Importing of aac (and other DirectShow formats) files ignored sample rate and number of channels.
19. Fixed: Trying to hide a plugin that had not been activated would fail.
20. Fixed: Submitting a CD to YADB with missing genre would fail.

11.1.95 (01/06/06)

1. Fixed: The "Removable" DB field would not show a "1" for removable files.
2. Fixed: The drop menus for library view switching wouldn't appear in the correct location when MC was maximized.
3. Changed: Somewhat revised the library view header bar.
4. Fixed: When ripping a CD not found in YADB, MC asks if you want to rip with unkown info. If you selected 'No', CD was ejected giving no chance to fix tags manually.

If Ipod is docked when you start up MC, MC immediately syncs info from portable.
This is without initiating anything, it happens right after MC launches.
I have the "auto-sync on connect" option unchecked in the portable options.
I've noticed this since build 96.

**This costs me at least a 10 second delay before I can do anything in MC after starting it if both the ipod and the nano are docked.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The "show files at bottom" option is not being remembered by viewschemes.
I'd like the files shown at bottom in audio schemes but not in video schemes.
Is this a bug or by design?  Would like to see the checkmark option for this remembered for each view scheme.

Handheld Bug:

Selecting Tools -> Options -> Handheld -> Device Management -> Auto Eject: On Close

results in the handheld being ejected after manual transfering any files to the device.

MC 11.1.99

Handheld device: 5G Video iPod

NOTE: This bug was present in MC v11.1.98 as well.

The problem with the uPnP Server and the DSM-320 is back. The DSM will start a song and after about a second or so restart the song and then play fine. This bug was introduced a few versions back, then fixed and now seems to have been reintroduced.

Just started using multiple zones.
Found a display issue in the progress window in standard display mode.
The [Zone] field is specified in both the playing and stopped state settings.
When playing in zone 1, the area is blank.  It won't display "Zone 1" in that space.
When toggled to zone 2, it correctly displays "Zone 2" in that space.

Perhaps not. I take "After Close" to mean when I quit MC. If eject "After Close" means after a file transfer to the device, then I don't understand why there's also an eject "After Sync" option. Isn't that redundant?

I think this is because "get data from handheld on sync (ratings, etc)" is set.

If it is, the question is whether it should do this at startup.

5. is working!! (Any chance on events, places and or people in the future?)

8. is not working. Non proportional photo's move to the left or upper part of the screen. Not really a showstopper, but centered is nicer.

Maybe this is introduced with the Photo Support:

Unckecking a playlist in the sync does not result in removal of the files. A message window tells me the "handheld is fully synced".
(Yes, I have "delete files not in sync" checked in the options).

Only after adding another playlist, the sync is forced and the files are removed.

Hi there,

I've just installed the latest version and have problems as big as never before as Medie Center is always crashing if my iPod video 60 GB is connected. I get this message:

Microsoft Visua C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Programme\Media Center 11\Media Center.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contac the application's support team for more information.

If ire disconnect the iPod, Media Center works fine again.

My iPod is in its original iPod format, not being initialized by Media Center before, as I need full photo and video support. But as Medie Center .99 obviously made big steps, I wanted to check out if I can switch over again as with my other older iPods.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Mighty A-MAN

Are you running iTunes at the same time?  Uninstall it (to test).

Also, try renaming the itunesdb file on the iPod.  If that works, please email the original itunesdb file to me.  jimh @ jriver.com.  Thanks.

Please start a new thread to discuss.

It would be nice if one could select which tag is to be used as the 'album-tag'. Fx I'd like to use the event tag. For now 'Move/Copy Fields ...' can be used.

Secure Rip Logs missing.
« Reply #13 on: January 14, 2006, 10:14:58 am »

The secure rip logs aren't being created even though the option is enabled. Tried disabling and re-enabling it, same problem. If it htelps, I don't have any logs past January 9th. I update the beta each evening (when one is available). So I'm thinking that it stopped working around build number 94 or 95.

Anyone else lost the ability to create logs?

An additional thought.
The sync list shows 'in queue' and 'on device'.
Maybe it should also say 'delete on sync'.

Still got the same CD burning issue that I've reported in 11.1.98 thread. I've also just sent an email to johnt @ jriver.com with the zip log file.

I've tried burning it with "Decode directly to CD" option disabled but it still will produce an error on track 2 or 3.

Same playlist burnt without any problem with Nero and also, I've no problems with the previous version of Media Center.

Below are my system information:

Check your log settings in MC Help.

Are you referring to the debug log settings in help? I'm referring the the Secure Rip Logs. I've ripped about a hundred disks since 1/9, they've all been ejected  :) Still no logs for any of them.

I think I have a serious bug.
I am not sure if it started with this build.

I restored a Library Backup which was made with 11.1.99.
I found that none of the playlists were in it.
I restored another backup (created automatically a few days ago with another build) and the playlists were in.
I had to run an import to fix all kinds of changes i made.

All seems fine now, but I cannot make a decent backup I trust.

After a few weeks of internal tests (on me), I decided that I find the new location of the "Top: " menu confusing. I think it should go back to the left side, close to the "bread-something" items. because that's the default location I go for navigation while "Bottom:" on the right is probably much rarely used and doesn't need to be close to "Top:". (Ideally, I would have "Bottom:" somewhere bottom, but I don't have a good proposal).

I can confirm the bug with the TV Out on iPod.  The iPod will properly output video to the TV, but it does not work for the photo slideshows.  When I run a slideshow on the TV with no music, I also get a green screen.  If I run a slideshow with music, the music will output and play, but the screen remains blank (this time black rather than green.)

I think this is because "get data from handheld on sync (ratings, etc)" is set.

If it is, the question is whether it should do this at startup.

Yes, I've always had that setting checked.
However, in earlier builds it would only do it after I initiated a sync manually.  Now it's doing it upon startup in these latest builds.
It's causing a delay when all I want to do is get to the video section and play a cartoon for the kids.

One of the big changes in 11.1 is the integration of the Media Library and Library Browser into one which operates from a view scheme named for the type of media from the root of the tree. I.E.

Audio
Video
Images

It is among those view schemes that you will find your library. At the header of each view scheme in the right side panel, youll find drop down menus that dictate the current type of veiw you are using.

Play around with things and see what you are able to come up with. The possibilities are even more extensive now that the two library modes are combined.

Editing the Thumbnail Text field in Customize Current View does nothing.

I want to edit the field in Album Thumbnails view so that it shows album name, with the album artist underneath.

No matter what fields or presets I use, Album Thumbnails view only ever shows album name.

Hi!

since 11.1.97 MC doesnt accept "right or left  mouse clicks" when minimized to tray.
So the only way to close MC is via taskmanager. I had this aboutv5 times now but I still cannot reproduce it.
It might have something to do with DVD playback started within that MC session.
As soon as I can figure it out, i will post it.

Right-clicking MC in the tray works fine for me, but I rarely used it to play DVDs.

Bug:
The ~n modifier works in a global way, so you can't make smartlists like
Code: [Select]
([playlist=xxxxxx) OR ([Rating]==5 ~n=10)
(Wrong behaviour. Should produce all files in playlist xxxxxx AND 10 files rated 5)
Code: [Select]
([playlist=xxxxxx) OR ([Rating]==5) ~n=10
(Correct behaviour. Produces the same result.)

No other known modifiers work in this way.

If I click on an album or artist pane for the Ipod, nothing is populated. I tried a few times.

Is anybody else seeing this? I haven't seen this reported.

Local Directory As Handheld
« Reply #31 on: January 16, 2006, 08:38:09 am »

I have a local directory set as a handheld.
I have the options set to convert if needed.
Conversion is to MP3

I did a send to on a list of 61 APE/APL files.
Hit the Transfer button

I see the time remaining climb, no activity in the activity bar.
No files are ever written to the directory.
Cancel does nothing.
I eventually have to kill MC via the task manager.

when using the date feature string to filter a date range anything after one day doesn't not work.

ie. date import=2d-14d

Not here.   I click on ipod under drives & devices in the tree.
I see full list of files that are on the device.
I click on an artist in the artist pane it filters down to that artist.
Then click on a album in the pane and it filters down to the individual album.

Hi,

I am quite happy with the new Media Library arrangement now.  The lack of the top / bottom edit originally seemed awful but now I am fine with it :)  I found a worka round by adding the two buttons for the Details and Album tumbnail view to my toolbar and this sorts things out except I spotted a little big.  When the top panel is set to panes these two buttons will change the view of the file list.  All Hunky Dory.  If the top view is set to a tile view the buttons try to change the tile display.  The tiles flicker but ultimatel;y nothing happens.  To get it to affect the list you must first click into the list.  Could this be changed so that the shortcuts always refer to the files as they cannot affect the tiles anyway it just seems a little daft.  If this could be changed then I would see the enw design as perfect for my use!!

Cheers
Adam
