iPod sync problem (Photos and TV output)
« on: January 21, 2006, 03:39:15 am »

This build wants to transfer all of my image files everytime I sync the iPod.  That problem does not exist in build 102.

I can't duplicate that.  Please double check your settings for sync.

I have the same problem, sync images, leave iPod connected, it will not sync them again when clicking on sync.
But when ejecting the iPod and then connect it again, it will delete all images on the iPod and then puts them on again

Benny describes the problem I am having.  I am syncing to a 5g Video Ipod and have a large photo library (about 4000 pictures).  If I reinstall build 102, I do not have the problem.  I am also having the problem with my slideshow output to the TV described here:

It may happen just once.  Matt changed the way we decide whether the image is unique or not in the last build.  Please read the notes for the build.

You could set up a new smaller library to test.

I already let it sync all of the files over again before I originally posted.  After it synced all 4000 files again, I disconnected, reconnected, and it wants to sync them all again.  I will initialize the ipod and try again, first with a small selection of photos, then with the whole library and report back what I find.

It's very possible that it's a bug.

I think it is a bug.  After I initialized the iPod and synced about 100 photos, i ejected and reconnected and it wanted to resync all of the photos.

On another note, I did try outputing those 100 photos to the TV and it worked correctly.  I am now uploading my whole library (which will take a couple of hours) to see if the tv output still works with the full library.

After resyncing my entire library, MC still wants to resync all images.  And the slideshow TV output still does not work.

I did not test 104 because the description of fixes did not seem to address the photo syncing problems described here, but I did give build 105 a look today.  I noticed that the iPod no longer wants to upload all of the pictures on each sync which is great.  But that fix seemed to be at the expense of having an album tag change force a synce of that file.  Is this something still planned for this release, or will you be waiting for the next release?

Also, did you discover any additional information about the tv output issues that I have been having with my large photo collection?

Thanks for all the work on this product.  As I have said before, I am a HUGE MC fan and continue to promote the product to all of my friends getting iPods and jumping into the world of digital music, photos, and video.

I synced ~4000 images to a 5g yesterday.  The TV output matches the iPod playback as expected.

So I'm not sure what is happening for you.  If you could initialize the iPod and then work in small batches of images, maybe you could help us find the problem.  My only guess is that a bad or missing file could be causing a problem. (although it _shouldn't_ matter)

Thanks.

Matt,

Thanks for looking into this.  When I get home from work this evening, I will spend some time uploading photos to the iPod to see if I can narrow the problem down to a specific image.  I will get back to you when I have some more information.

Matt,

Well, I spent at least 8 hours last night syncing photos trying to narrow down what the problem is.  I synced pictures two albums at a time until the problem would begin.  Wouldn't you know that everything worked fine until I synced the last two remaining albums.  Then the problem came back.  I tried deleting those two albums, but the problem remained.  So I initialized the iPod and synced only those two albums.  Interestingly, everything worked fine.  I then added a couple of other random albums to the iPod to see if it would continue to work, and it did.  I then synced all of the rest of the pictures and it stopped working.

Before I went to sleep last night I initialized the ipod again and synced everything back onto the iPod except those two suspicious albums.  This morning everything worked fine.  I was unable to narrow it down to a single file that is causing the problem.  Is there something I can send to you to look at that might provide some additional information.  I have a copy of a "working" photo database from the iPod as well as a "corrupt" photo database that I could send to you.  Maybe you could compare them and see if there is something noticeable.  I can also zip up the images that seemed to be causing a problem and send them to you, but since they worked on their own, I am guessing that there was probably some conflict between them and something else on the ipod.

I appreciate your help.

Please send the sample image and database(s) to matt @ jriver.com

Hopefully we'll be able to see what is happening.

Thanks.

I know you are busy with getting a release of 11.1, but I wanted to know if you had time to look into the Photo Slideshow problem yet?

We still haven't been able to reproduce it.  We'll keep trying, but the fix may come in a service release to MC 11.1 instead of before.

I'm unable to reproduce this.  You may not be able to switch between MC and iTunes without MC thinking the images are out-of-sync.

You may need to reinitialize and resync if you continue to have problems.

I'm sorry to bother again with this issue.
I did what was advised : ipod updated and reset to factory default. reinitialize in MC and with build 118 still the same issue. Here is a print screen whch might help you :

I'm not using Itunes at all.

Cheers
PS: it's no big deal for now, I do not upload many pics.
